Year 4 News

Swimming Carnival
We are very proud of the Year 4 students for their fantastic team spirit for the school carnival.
It was lovely to see students be ‘risk takers’ and having a go at different swimming events including the novelty races! There was great team spirit throughout all houses.
A special mention to the Year 4 students who continued through to the district swimming event.
Congratulations to : Sonny M, Jensen R, Lachlan B, Nicholas C, Zoe N, Annabel H, Kirsten C, Alex D and Helena P.
Literacy
Students have continued to embrace the Daily 5 activities with such maturity. Part of the students learning journey for the week, has been ‘Work on Writing’ where students develop and edit pieces of writing. We hope you enjoy this sample written by our budding authors!
A long time ago, there was an enchanted oasis with a magnificent tree. A little stone led up to it, and colourful flowers and a trickling waterfall surrounded it. Grazing unicorn’s manes shimmered in the sunlight. The tree itself had tiny red doors and little circular windows in it. A small wooden staircase wound tightly around the tree’s brim, with a vine railing. Forest sprites walked around without a care in the world, it was a sunny day as gnomes did gardening.

Maths
Early Morning Maths began for Year 4 students this week. Students made use of this time to seek support with their homework, enjoy number games and work through problem solving tasks.
Inquiry
Last week Year 4 students began their unit on ‘How We Organise Ourselves’. Our central idea for this unit is: Communities evolve in response to many factors.
We were very lucky to have a parent guest speaker offer their time to the Year 4 students. This was an opportunity for students to ‘tune in’ to this new unit. A big thank you to Nick F the father of Max F in 4D. Nick discussed his expeditions to Mt Everest. He talked about the preparations, considerations and challenges he faced. There were many great questions asked by students.
Sport
The Year 4 students were invited to be part of an online St Kilda football ‘camp day’ webex chat. Students were provided an opportunity to ask questions to team players and be involved with a quiz against other local schools. Well done to all students who created questions that could be shared during the session.
