Year 3 News

Year 3 Sport
The Year 3 students have had a change in their Tuesday afternoon sport sessions from Dodge ball to the game of Newcombe ball (a modified version of Volleyball).
They have been split up into groups and will compete in a Newcombe ball tournament against the other students in Year 3 while working on their teamwork, game strategies and ball catching skills.
Maths
In maths we have been working on various different strategies to help when solving addition problems and have introduced vertical addition in three digit numbers.
The students enjoyed playing maths games including ‘race to 50’ and ‘ready, set, roll’ which further consolidate their addition number facts and immediate recall.
Inquiry
We have begun our second unit of inquiry ‘How we express ourselves” focusing on exploring all types of communication. Our central idea is: People express themselves differently according to environment and audience.
The students have worked in groups, brainstorming the different types of communication and had the chance to find various ways in which we can communicate around the school and in the classroom.
Kindness Challenge
Each student in Year 3 came up with an act of kindness and wrote it down on a card which created a ‘20 day kindness class calendar’.
Each day a student from each class reads out one of the challenges from their class to try and complete for that day. We have had a great time trying to ensure we meet the challenge set for the day!
