Principals Report

Beaumaris North Primary School community acknowledges the Boonwurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional owners and custodians of this land, and we pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging.

Special Assembly

On Monday 7 March we were privileged to have David Tournier from the Boonwurrung Land and Sea Council sharing a ‘Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony.’

We are very grateful to have David Tournier visit Beaumaris North Primary. We are grateful for his connection to community and wisdom.

The Art Extension Group has been making an acknowledgement to country with an arrangement of shields that will be displayed at the front of the school. The inspiration came from the the Ian Potter Museum in the city.

Traditionally the shields were used for important ceremonies and identified their tribe and language group through their unique designs.

This is the first time that our students have been able to experience a 'Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony' at our school.  I would like to thank Nicole Palo La Gerche for organising our special guest and also our School Captains for managing our first whole school gathering.

Nicole Palo La Gerche is our schools Marrung Educational Leader.

Well done Summer (Prep B) for your Welcome to Country on behalf of BNPS.

District Swimming Carnival

Last Thursday 3 March, we had 30 students from Years 4, 5 and 6 compete in the District Sports Carnival .  The BNPS District Swimming team made a huge splash at this year’s competition at MSAC, finishing in third place out of eight teams in the Seaside District.

All students, from Years 4, 5 and 6, put in a huge effort in each of their individual and team events. The team spirit, comradery and sportsmanship were admirable, with students encouraging each other and cheering until they lost their voices.

Charlie C and Xavier W will be continuing to the Divisional level to represent BNPS in their individual swimming events.

The team events were where BNPS shone, with three relay teams finishing in second place, only missing out by several milliseconds, and one team finishing in third place.

Well done to the team, and a big thank you to all of the sport teachers involved in organising the event.

Years 5 and 6 Inter School Sport

Our Years 5 and 6 Interschool sporting program is operating every Friday.  Our students are participating in basketball, kanga cricket, tee ball, volleyball, Oz Tag, Hot Shots and recreation sports.  Last week the recreation group participated in paddle boarding and rugby.

The huge variety of sporting activities is providing many different opportunities for the children. Sports training is held at school every Wednesday afternoon with every student and their teacher being involved with this activity.

Something To Make You Smile

Security

  • Private property brought to school by staff or students is not insured and the Department of Education and Training (DET) does not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage. Students, staff and visitors often bring personal property to school; this can include mobile phones, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises.  Please note DET does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and it will not pay for any loss or damage to such property.
  • Mobile phones - it would be advisable for parents to consider the need for students to bring phones to school. They will be cared for by teachers during the school day.

Tuesday 15 March - Curriculum Day

Michael will be providing a Professional Development Day to support and develop staff capacity to implement challenging tasks, extending students’ ability to link concepts and further improve their knowledge and capability to apply known strategies to solve open-ended tasks.

Outside School Hours Care will be operating on Curriculum Day but you will need to ensure that you book in so that appropriate staff can be employed for the day.
