Writing with 5/6M

In 5/6M students have been focusing on writing creatively.

We have been learning to construct simple sentences as well as planning our writing for success.

We have been using story graphs to plan our writing, ensuring we have a sizzling start to hook our reader, and a backfill that introduces our characters and setting. We have looked at creating small problems that grow into bigger problems resulting in a climax and resolution.

To understand the planning stage, we looked at several picture story books. One book we looked at was a Dreamtime story called ‘How the birds got their colour’.

We have talked a lot about aboriginal culture and in particular our totem animal. This is an animal we connect with. Each student then created a Dreamtime story which related to their totem animal.

Students also worked hard together to create their very own Acknowledgement to Country. Students thought about key words that would show respect to our Indigenous community.
