It has been a very exciting fortnight for staff, students, and families at Greater Shepparton Secondary College, as we had the privilege of hosting a wide variety of events that welcomed our families to the College. The Koorie and CALD Welcome Evenings were a huge success, and we thank our families for their attendance and participation (pictures pg 4).

On Tuesday 8th March, we hosted the first of our Neighbourhood Welcome Evenings, with Biyala (pictures pg 4). We look forward to welcoming the Dharnya families on Wednesday 16th March, and the Bayuna families on Wednesday 23rd March.

On Friday 4th March GSSC hosted our first Investiture Assembly at our new site. The guests at the Investiture Assembly included our Year 12 students, new School Leaders and their families and the Mayor Kim O’Keefe as our guest speaker for the special event.

The Assembly was live streamed to our Year 10 and Year 11 students. School Captains, House Captains and House Vice Captains all received their badges, and our newly appointed Environmental Leaders, Music Leaders and Multicultural & Indigenous Leaders were all announced.

As the mornings start to get cooler, we are noticing that some students are wearing jumpers with hoods and other windcheaters. Please be reminded that these items are not part of our approved school uniform and staff will be addressing this with students and requesting they remove the unapproved item. The uniform shops have a sufficient supply of GSSC jumpers and jackets that can be purchased. Please support us with upholding the GSSC school values and by ensuring that all students are Responsible and demonstrate Respect by wearing the full correct school uniform.

Our SWPBS focus for Weeks 5-8 has been on Arriving to Class on Time, and the efforts made by our students to achieve arrive on time has been fabulous. Out of the 8000 positive chronicles added in Week 4, 5000 of these were for arriving on time. We congratulate our students for being Responsible and look forward to our students achieving many more positive chronicles in the coming weeks.

Our SEA Reports will be available to parents on Tuesday 15th March. Our SEA assessment provides an opportunity to share with families how their child is performing in school in a range of areas – including:

Personal Learning Growth – Student demonstrates growth in their own personal learning level.  This is not a comparative measure and is not about their performance against the Victorian Curriculum levels.

Completion of Learning Tasks – Does the student complete learning tasks and homework when provided?

Attitude to Learning – Student commitment and engagement in their learning.

Managing Personal Learning – Does the student bring the required equipment, arrive on time, and seek feedback?

The SEA cycle occurs every six weeks and provides a clear guide for families as to how their child is going in class on a day-to-day basis.

Some other important dates are as follows:

  • 2022 General Achievement Test GAT – Wednesday 7th September. Please note the new date
  • Year 11 exams are scheduled for the week commencing June 6th – Week 7. Units 2 and 4 are scheduled to commence the following week, June 14th, Week 8.
  • Parent Student Teacher Conferences will take place onsite from 4pm-6pm on Thursday 31st March and online (Teams) from 4pm-6pm on Tuesday 5th April.

Next week we are looking forward to a week full of exciting activities for Harmony Week. The Leadership Team look forward to sharing these events in the next edition of the Newsletter.
