Wellbeing

It has been such a busy and exciting term and with just two weeks left we hope students continue to take all opportunities presented to them while looking after their wellbeing! This week we welcomed back our Year 11 and 12 students from their Retreats at Beechworth and Blampied respectively.   The students took the opportunity to engage with their faith and approached the many and varied activities offered in the programs with enthusiasm. We extend a huge thank you to all the staff involved who took the time away from home to provide this spiritual experience for our Senior students.

While the retreats left the school a bit quieter there was a lot happening for the Year 10 students as they took part in their ‘Dare to Dream’ week. It was a week focused on pathways with activities designed to get the students thinking about their future at and beyond school. They also had some external providers visit on Friday March 18 as part of their Personal Development Program and of course there was time for some fun too!

Backflip Against Bullying Incursion

The Year 7-10 students were amazed by the talent of the team at ‘Backflips Against Bullying’ when they performed their show. They covered the different types of bullying that occur and talked about the impact our behaviour has on others. Students were reminded of the impact bullying and disrespect can have on a person's wellbeing. While hearing these important messages students and teachers were entertained and amazed by backflips and other acro tricks…

The 22nd of March saw us welcome the Year 7 families to school for our Year 7 Parent Night. We were thrilled to be able to host them at school after two years of covid. We were excited to have the opportunity to officially welcome the Year 7 families to our school community. The sense of community is very important to us at the college and we look forward to building relationships over their daughters time at Killester.

Harmony Day Celebrations

Harmony Day, which is observed each year on March 21, celebrates this diversity, aiming to foster inclusiveness, respect and the idea that people of all different cultures can make a valuable contribution to society. We will acknowledge this day and celebrate as a school community on Friday 1st April.

Year 10 Personal Development Day

After a busy few days of careers and future pathways planning, the last day of Dare to Dream week focused on personal development for the Year 10s. The day consisted of guest speakers and activities that taught students all about responsible decision making, self management, self awareness and self care.

The students participated enthusiastically in the following activities:

  • Party Safe Workshop run through the City of Greater Dandenong Youth and Family Services
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing Workshop run through ‘Batyr’
  • Wellbeing Dance Concert run through the Nikki Visaj movement

It was a fun, active and informative day and the Year 10s should be very proud of their involvement in all sessions.

Student reflections

The team building activities with my Homeroom were my favourite as they allowed me to get to know my classmates better. It was fun interacting with each other in a different way” Srinidhi Boyapati, St Thomas

“I think that PD was really fun. The main thing that I learnt and got from the day was more about mental health and that there are many different ways to conquer what goes on in your mind. My favourite part of the day was the dancing” Shyeda Nguyen, St Catherine

My favourite part of the day was the Party Safe Workshop as we learnt about the importance of being safe in social situations. This session helped us to learn independence and to take care of ourselves in a responsible way” Lia Vrondou, St Thomas

I liked the dancing workshop in the afternoon. It was a good way to end the week because it was energising and fun” Anugraha Jogi, St Thomas
