Tunes from Tullow

It had to work didn't it?

After two years of dislocation and repeated cancellations, the Music Department finally got to perform live for our parents and friends. The scenario was fraught with danger, outdoor concert at 5.00pm, but we were treated to a superb autumn evening that only Melbourne can provide. The scene was also set by performing outside our beautiful Tullow building.

The concert started with the Theme from Rocky "Gonna Fly now" played by the Killester Brass Ensemble and the concert continued to fly right through to the closing sounds of Giulia Magagna and The Soul Collective performing "Knock on Wood".

Between that we were treated to performances by our newly formed Bollywood Fusion troupe, HONK!, the year 8 Rock Band, Concert Band, the staff trio, a duo of mad Mexicans and two sets from the Soul Collective featuring Esther Kiiir and Giulia Magagna on vocals.

The concert was very ably hosted by our music captains, Amy Nguyen and Jacque Fernando who provided enthusiasm and valuable information to our audience.

Above all, it was a celebration of being together and making music as well as being an audience, activities we have not been able to do for too long now.

Thanks should go to our Leadership team who have supported the Music Department through thick and thin as well as all of our parents who have shown that commitment towards a valuable part of their child's education.

I think all of our students appreciate these opportunities a little bit more these days.

If you missed last night, most of the groups will be performing in a rehearsal type setting at our Twilight Opening next Wednesday 30th March.  Here are the times for the various groups:

4.30-5.10pm - Small ensembles and soloists

5.10-5.35 pm - Honk

5.35 - 6.00pm - Concert Band

6.00-6.25pm - Soul Collective

VCE Top Acts Concert

Our VCE musicians travelled in to the Melbourne Recital Centre last Monday to watch the top performers from last year's VCE Music performance subject strut their stuff. It was an excellent concert full of diverse performances on various instruments; violin, flute, recorder, drum-kit, vocals and trombone.  It was a very good way for our students to listen and watch the highest quality performances and gain an appreciation of what is needed to put together a solid recital program for their own VCE recitals.  Mr. Hickey was treated to a vast selection of the girl's listening on the way hoe with bands like Orange Rex County and Cage the Elephant. Mr. Hickey learnt a lot on that trip as well.
