Photography and Film
An introductory task for our Year 10 elective Photography and Film class, involves students learning about the art elements and art principles. To reinforce their understanding, students used their smartphone to take photos of their surrounding environment focusing on how the art elements line or texture for example, could be creatively captured. Students used their photographs as the basis of the digital collage artwork. Learning tools of Adobe Photoshop, students created surreal, fun or scary digital collages.

Year 10 Photography and Film - Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria Excursion
On the 23rd of March the Year 10s made a trip to the Royal Botanic Gardens to capture the beautiful flora. It was the first time our year 10s have experienced manual black and white photography. The purpose of which was to further develop their understanding of photographic Elements and Principles. The perfect sunny weather provided the ideal opportunity to capture their images, which will then be developed and printed in the dark room. This was a valuable excursion for the Year 10s to experience what it was like before the digital age when photographers captured their images manually.
“The best part of today was the many photographic opportunities, they were all very different and we could take many types of images.” Safia Coleman
“What I liked about the excursion was taking photos and learning information about the Royal Botanic Garden’s trees from the tour leader on the Explorer Bus tour. The most interesting part was taking close up photos of flowers as this interested me.” Jesela Baxter
“This experience is one that I will never forget. The beautiful plants and scenery provided unique photographic opportunities and I especially enjoyed the bus tour around the gardens.” Tara Mai
“I loved the relaxing and insightful tour around the Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens. The plants, scenery and animals made the day an enjoyable way to take our photos.” Grace Fernandes

Visual Communication Design
Unit 3, Outcome 1: Analysis and Practice In Context.
In this unit of work and outcome, the talented Year 12 VCD students analyse how design elements, design principles, methods, media and materials are used in visual communications in all three fields of design to achieve particular purposes for targeted audiences. Students draw on their findings from the analysis to inform the creation of their own visual communications and articulate these connections. In response to given stimulus material, students create visual communications for different purposes, audiences and contexts using a range of manual and digital methods, media and materials including two- and three-dimensional technical presentation drawings. In the field of communication design, the students were inspired by existing chocolate packaging to design their own professional examples. WELL DONE YR12 VCD students!
