VCAL - St Bedes Debating Competition
On the 22nd of March, the Senior (plus two Intermediate) VCAL students of Killester debated against St Bede's College for the first time in person. The topics were:
- People who are unvaccinated for COVID-19 by choice should nto have access to the public health system.
- SIgn languagae should be complusory in all schools as language.
- Social Media does more harm than good.
- The school canteen should only sell healthy food.
The result was a draw with very strong arguments for both teams. The best speaker for Killester College was Itrat Zahra, due to conviction with which she spoke. Well done to both Killester College and St Bedes for the friendly competition.
Mindflight Incursion
On the 22nd of March, the VCAL students had the privilege of using Virtual Reality to explore different careers, especially STEAM jobs of the future - called Mindflight 7. The options for students to explore included open heart surgery, frog dissection and soundstage to name just a few. This was an amazing experience providing opportunities for students to immerse themselves in adventures that would not otherwise be possible. As Mr McPhail said "it was mindblowing".
Student feedback about Mindflight 7 included:
"It gave more opportunities to understand what different professions do." Eden
"We were able to view the skills needed for different jobs." Jaymie
"We were able to try out new experiences and we had choices about what careers we could explore." Jasmine
