AAFC News: Recruit Training Weekend

A group of 414 cadets went on the Recruit Training Weekend for new cadets and second years last weekend. The new recruits boarded a bus loaded with baggage and high hopes after a long day at the MGC swimming carnival. If only they knew that they would be able to conduct a whole parade with full basic drill knowledge in just 48 hours. The RAAF Williams Base (Laverton) provided us with lodging. We wake up the next day with fully charged batteries and are ready to go to RAAF Point Cook Base, where we will spend most of the day flying in a Diamond DA-40 aircraft.

The new recruits were sent to a classroom where they began their classes before heading outdoors for drill training. During the day, recruits filtered out to go flying for the first time as cadets. They were escorted to a hangar where all the planes are kept and shown the Diamond DA-40 first. It was finally my turn! Nervous, I jumped aboard the plane, eager to take off and experience the world from a new perspective. My group was fortunate enough to travel to Avalon Airport to refuel the plane and see a weekly water drop by an aerial firefighter. It was fantastic! We held our parade in the final hour of the camp. This was the recruit's time to show off their hard work from the previous days. They managed to pull it off! Bringing the weekend to a close with the greatest dedication.

Thank you!
