Introducing the Drama team 2022!

My name is Freya Myers, it’s my final year at MGC, and I’m Senior Drama Captain for 2022! It’s the first year that the school has elected a specialist drama portfolio, and I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by my amazing fellow drama captains: Chloe Johnstone and Bella Black (Senior Vice Drama Co-Captains), Ruby Scott (Middle School Drama Captain), and Jasmine Buckle (Middle School Vice Drama Captain), who make up our team. Already we have so much planned for the rest of the year in Drama: aside from assisting in planning the school musical ‘Mamma Mia’, we plan to bring more theatre to MGC through the creation of a drama club, as well as theatre sports and improvisation competitions across year levels, festivals, workshops, and much more. There will be something for everybody, from those with experience in drama and those with none. From the drama team to you, we’re incredibly excited to see what the rest of the year will bring in Drama!

Year 12 Drama Update

Year 12 Drama has begun this year with a lot of excitement. We’ve begun our work on presentations about various theatre practitioners like Augusto Boal and Jerzy Grotowski, whilst learning about the methods and techniques of Constantin Stanislavski, and Bertolt Brecht, doing mini performances based on their techniques! In the coming months, we will begin to develop our ensemble performances, as well as revel in the chance to see the plays we’ll be studying in our end of year exam: ‘Jack and Millie’, and ‘Slap Bang Kiss’. Although its bittersweet to be starting our final year in Drama at MGC, all the Year 12s are incredibly excited to face whatever the year will bring, and to enjoy every moment!

Year 9 Actors Workshop Update

In Year 9 actors workshop so far, we have been working on memory, trust and teamwork which are used every day in acting. Each lesson you perform a little role play in front of the class and are given feedback from your teachers and peers. Coming up we will be diving deeper and focusing on using our imaginations for our first learning task called Childhood Myths, Memories and Milestones, which is inspired by the children’s book “Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge”. We will create a collaborative ensemble performance as a group and create a meaning through our interpretation of the topic.

Year 7 Performance Update

Get excited year 7’s because Performance in semester one is going to be an awesome introduction to MGC’s drama program! This semester you will be working collaboratively to create an entirely student directed class performance. You will be using your acting, scriptwriting, directing, theatre technologies and dance knowledge learnt in class and outside of school to create a play based centred around a theme. The year 8’s will remember last year’s semester one theme was queens. We had queen ‘eshay’ bees, queen hunger games and lots of fun! Although I can’t tell you what your theme this semester will be, I can tell you that you will have an absolute blast and hopefully it inspires you to continue your drama career at MGC. Good luck!
