Year 8 Medieval Day

Our annual Year 8 Medieval Day occurred on Friday the 4th of March. Thornbury High turned the clock back some 500 years to become home to an assortment of Medieval characters, activities and specially designed lessons.  Our Year 8’s took a spectacular time trip back to the Middle Ages.

All Year 8 classes attended the day and the timetable was carefully designed to ensure their day would be completely devoted to this historical period. The Year 8’s were split into four groups. Each group rotated through specially prepared areas of the school to participate in sessions about crime and punishment, weapons and armour, tournament, medieval games and archery.  These sessions had professional presenters who used a variety of media, and real artefacts, such as swords and armour to engage students interactively.

A medieval treat of chocolate iced doughnuts and fruit was provided for morning tea. This was prepared by our sensational Year 11 VCAL students who worked tirelessly and efficiently to serve this delicious treat.

Special thanks for this effort to Ms. Maria Ioannidis, Jack McClaren, Jasmine Ralph, Paul Massela, Moses Rumbiak and Manny Nedelkos. Many thanks also to Blaga Fakos and Lucy Youston from the Food Studies Department who oversaw the ordering, purchasing and distribution of the food for the Medieval morning tea!

Thanks also need to be given to the daily organizer Ms Aimee Page who helped with the intricate organization required for the day. The Humanities staff were also great in their dedication to make the day so successful and special for our Year 8 students.
