VCE Studio Arts Excursion

Unit 3 VCE Studio Arts

Students undertaking Unit 3 VCE Studio Arts enjoyed attending a public gallery and commercial gallery in the city. Apart from city brunch and 7-Eleven slurpees, the biggest highlight was visiting Top Arts at the National Gallery of Victoria. The Top Arts exhibition is a showcase of outstanding student artworks from 2021 VCE Art and Studio Arts. Our students were delighted to also view the exhibitors’ folios during their visit. Student folios contain extensive documentation of the studio process from initial concept ideation through to artwork completion. Our students learned about methods of organisation, documentation, and the visual communication of ideas. The visit extended to other exhibition spaces within the NGV Ian Potter centre, including key artworks the students are studying for their SAC and end of year examination.

It was fortunate timing and a rare opportunity to also visit ARC ONE gallery, a leading Australian commercial gallery on Flinders Lane where Ms Sarroff is exhibiting a solo show. Hearing first hand from their Artist teacher and gaining behind the scenes access will benefit the students acquisition of key knowledge and skills. A multidisciplinary artist, the current work on show is a combination of photo media, video art, augmented reality and sculpture.

Both galleries are free to the public with rotating exhibitions. Galleries are educational, inspirational, and present thought-provoking ideas, entertainment and experiences to audiences. Students and families are encouraged to visit galleries and museums from time to time during weekends and the holiday period.
