Science

It’s been exciting and invigorating to see the excited faces of Year 7 students commence their journey at Mazenod College. The introduction of practical activities, real day to day science events and laboratories to the new group of young men is embraced with enthusiasm.  At Mazenod College we teach students that “Science is a way of thinking”. It is a method of tackling a problem and understanding its application to every day events. The teachers of the College encourage our students to be inquisitive and question all that is happening around them. Below are some of the experiences and thoughts of our new Year 7 students.

Year 7 Science

During our first science lessons of 2022, our teacher spoke about Scientific Equipment. As we explored this topic, we have been learning the various equipment we will encounter in the Science lab and their uses. In our most recent lesson,  we were given a table that we had to fill  with the intended reason each piece of equipment is used for, as well as a Scientific Diagram that we had to draw. I have been enjoying Science in Mazenod as it is taught in a manner that is easy to follow and comprehend. Can’t wait for more classes!

My class - 7 Foynes - have been having an interesting Science lesson. We are learning about all the different science equipment and the use of these equipment. Some of the equipment we have learned about are the Bunsen burner and how it is operated. We have also looked at test tubes, beakers, gauze mats, conical flask and learnt about the experiments these apparatus are used for. I am really enjoyed science and I am looking forward to all the new things I will learn in future.

Aiden Devadass (7FOY)

In Yr 7 Science we are learning about lab equipment and what it is used for.  We also learnt about the branches of Science and the sub branches of Science.  Some examples include Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Astronomy, Ecology and Physics.  These are only a few examples and there are many more. In my opinion, Science is an interesting topic as there are many areas to explore.  I am definitely going to enjoy learning about this interesting subject.
