Women & Girls in Science

International Day of Women and Girls in Science on Tuesday 11 February was acknowledged with a scavenger hunt. Organised by Science teacher Elizabeth Leong, profiles of women scientists and inventors were placed around the school. Students had to find the photos with a brief biography of the accomplished women in science. They were rewarded with a small prize and new knowledge of a women in science. There is now an informative display in the Science corridor.

Digital Engineering

Level Crossing Removal Project Digital engineers gave a presentation at lunchtime Tuesday 17 February of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technology. This was extra special as one of the six presenters was former student Tamara Howard (Class of 2004).

Presenter Daniella Batzke, an Southern Program Alliance engineer working on the level crossing removals at Mentone and Cheltenham, explained the different kinds of engineers working on the project  - mechanical, electrical, civil, digital and more. The presenters had diverse pathways including coming from a graphic design background. Students wanting a Digital Engineering career can undertake the Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural). Then it was time to experience what the new stations will look like through the 3d goggles.

Thank you to the organisers the Southern Alliance Program for LXRP. They have been giving many opportunities for local schools to get behind the scenes on the project and learn more about careers and pathways into major construction projects.
