ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS’ REPORT

BOOKLISTS FOR 2014
Campion Education is again the booklist provider for McKinnon Secondary College. Booklists for 2014 will be provided to students in the coming weeks. Families will again have the option of placing an order then collecting books and stationery from our Gym - this is a very convenient option for families.
Students undertaking Year 11 or 12 in 2014 may place an order to be collected from our Gym on Monday 16 December 2013. The December collection option should assist students to complete holiday homework. Students in the Senior school should return their booklist by Thursday 5 December.
Students in Years 8 - 10 in 2014 can return their booklist to the office by Friday 13 December, for collection from the Gym on Friday 24 January, 2014. (Any families of VCE students who do not place an order by 16 December may place an order online, to be collected on 24 January.)
Families can also order texts and stationery to be home delivered or visit Campion’s retail outlet. We encourage families to select the prepackaged collection option, as it should be more convenient. Details and cut-off dates for orders are on the booklist itself. Orders for texts and stationery can be made online - simply follow the link on our website.
EXAMS
All students in Years 9 - 11 will be completing exams in the coming weeks. It is critical that all students begin their revision early, seeking support and assistance from their teachers with concepts they find difficult. Success will require students to set high expectations for their performance, to work hard and to take pride in their work.
SAFETY IN MCKINNON ROAD
Staff from Glen Eira City Council have recently been ‘booking’ drivers that stop to drop-off children in the bus zone outside McKinnon SC. Please be careful to observe and obey all signs in McKinnon Road. Traffic congestion is a continuing problem along McKinnon Road and we ask for your cooperation in driving carefully and ensuring the safety of all children around the College.
We have seen a number of ‘near misses’ recently, with students nearly hit by passing cars. Students must use the school crossing when the flags are displayed, and to take care when crossing McKinnon Road before and after school. Students should remove headphones to ensure they can hear oncoming traffic.
24-7 RELAY CHALLENGE - SPONSORSHIP MONEY
The 24-7 Relay Challenge was a fantastic event for our school community in Term 3. State Schools Relief is a most worthy cause for our community to support with this year’s 24-7, providing uniforms and school shoes to children in very difficult circumstances.
Currently a number of students are yet to submit their sponsorship money to the Bursar’s office, and it is now overdue. All students with outstanding sponsorship money have been sent an email reminding them of the need to honour their commitment to support State Schools Relief; students have also been reminded via the daily newsfeed, at General Assembly and at Year Level Assemblies. We encourage all parents of 24-7 participants to confirm with their child whether their sponsorship money has been provided. Thanks for your support in this matter.
2014 EDUCATION MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE (EMA)
Education Maintenance Allowance forms for 2014 are now available from the College. EMA is provided by the Victorian Government to lower-income families to help with education-related costs. The closing date for EMA applications is 28 February 2014 and must be strictly adhered to.
