POLICE CONCERNS REGARDING HIGH RISK PARTIES

Local police are concerned about the risk to safety of young people attending under-age parties organised through social media.  The numbers of young people attending can reach upwards of 500 plus, far and above the capacity of the venues.  Quite often, the venues themselves are totally inappropriate including residential premises and disused factories.  In most cases there has been no contact with police or local authorities, therefore safety plans are non-existent.  Although the young people attending are charged an admittance fee, licensed crowd controllers are not employed. Security and entry is generally controlled by other young people.

In many cases the organisers have no public liability insurance meaning that those attending would not be covered for injury or loss.  There is no first aid or medical provisions.  In recent weeks, a number of these parties have been infiltrated by gatecrashers and subsequently closed down.  This has led to damage to vehicles and local amenities, assaults and anti-social behaviour within the vicinity.

Before young people attend a party, parents should find out:

  • If the party has been registered with police;
  • What security arrangements are in place;
  • Where the party is being held;
  • How many people are attending;
  • How invitations have been arranged (social media creates free-for-alls);
  • What entertainment is in place;
  • If alcohol may be involved;
  • If the host have public liability Insurance.

As a parent of a young person who may attend these events, please be aware of the risks to your child’s safety and say no if you are not satisfied.
