2021 Whole School House Cross Country - Tuesday 4th May

STOP THE PRESS - Our House Cross Country is fast approaching. Although our venue was booked with Council earlier this year it now appears drainage and building works have started at the reserve.  Fortunately, they are only working on one section of the reserve, so although the race course will now have to be altered, we will still run the event at the North Ringwood Reserve.  All parent and grandparent helpers will soon receive a notice on Compass with instructions for the day (sorry about the delay - everything had to be changed at the last minute).  If you haven’t received your helper information please email Fiona Pumpa on Fiona.Pumpa@education.vic.gov.au  All students need permission to attend - please see the notice on Compass for event details and to give permission for your child/children to attend.

Students in Grade 3 to 6 are to run in their age groups. 8/9/10 year old will run approximately 2kms.  11/12/13 year old will run approximately 3kms.  Foundation to Grade 2 will run in their grade levels.  Foundation students will run a part lap of the oval.  Grade 1 and 2 students will run approximately 1km.

Students in Grades 3 to 6 will eat their lunches at recess on this day.  Foundation to Grade 2 students will have their lunch after their races once they return to school.

Students are encouraged to wear their House colours for this event.  Please ensure clothes/socks/hair accessories worn are suitable for running and it does not matter if they get muddy.  If you do not know which sporting House your child is in then please ask their class teacher.

Children with asthma, diabetes and other conditions requiring medication are to run with their asthma puffers and/or jelly beans etc.

A big thank you in advance to our parent and grandparent helpers!!

Everybody start (or continue) training!!

Downball Incursion

All of our Hot Shots courts have now been painted and with the repair of the asphalt in front of the hall we will soon have two Downballl courts marked.  These can be used by students during recess and lunch times.  Our Downball incursion with Downball Australia is now scheduled for week 4.  During these sessions students will learn the rules of Downball, strategies for successful plays, team work and, of course, the skills necessary to play the game.  Many of our students are already using our newly painted courts as they enjoy spending their break times engaged in Downball games.

AFL Trials

On Friday 23rd April Lucas F, Liam A and Jack M qualified for the Team Vic AFL trials.  These trails are held all over Australia as each state builds a team of their most talented AFL players.  To be invited to attend the trials is a tremendous achievement as many students from our three local sporting districts have students applying for a place. Unfortunately, Lucas had an injury and was unable to attend.  Liam and Jack attended the trials along with 60 to 70 other hopefuls.  The boys participated in a game of football to show their skills to the talent scouts.  On this occasion, our athletes will not be progressing to further trials but we are very proud of their achievements.

Cricket Trials

Later this week Thomas C from Grade 5 will attend the Team Vic Cricket trials.  These are similar to the AFL trials attended by Liam and Jack.  We wish Thomas the best of luck and acknowledge that being selected to participate in these trials when in Grade 5 is a mighty achievement. Good luck, Thomas!

District Cross Country

It seems that many ovals and reserves are currently having works completed.  Our usual venue for the District Cross Country, Domeney Reserve in Park Orchards, is also not available for our use this year.  Due to this it appears we will be subject to not only a venue change but a date change.  All year it has been advertised the District Cross Country will be held on the morning of Wednesday 26th May.  Our date has been changed to the afternoon of Tuesday 25th May with the venue being the Warranwood Equestrian Centre and surrounding ovals in Parkwood.  Students who turn 10, 11, 12 or 13 this year will qualify for this event through our House Cross Country.  Stay posted for more information as it becomes available.
