From the Principal

Term 2

Welcome to Term 2

The term has started and already there is a buzz in the air as students settle back in to their classrooms and learning.  We welcome two new families in Grade 1 and know that they have settled well and already been on an excursion with their class to Edendale Farm.

ANZAC Day

Early on Sunday morning Madeline and Lucas woke early and headed to Ringwood Clock Tower to attend the service of remembrance for ANZAC Day.  The service had all the familiar hallmarks; last post, reveille, poems and the national anthems of both Australia and New Zealand.   Along with 500+ members of the Ringwood community, Madeline and Lucas represented Mullum Primary School proudly, placing the wreath at the Clock Tower as a sign of respect.

Foundation 2022 Tours

Term 2 is always a busy term as prospective families tour the school in preparation for enrolling in 2022.  This year we are so proud to share our new facilities, the wonderful learning that is happening in every classroom, and most especially the opportunity to do these tours face-to-face.  If you have a child due to start school next year we encourage you to collect an enrolment form from the office and have this back to us before the end of this term.  If you have friends, neighbours or kindergarten friends ready to start school next year, please let them know that tours are available now and we would love to share with them our school.  I have attached a flyer to the Community announcements section of this newsletter for you to share with friends.

Our current families with students starting in 2022 may like to join us in the Open Session leading into Education Week.  We will be opening up the Foundation classrooms from 4:00-5:30 for an afternoon of activities.  Call the school office to book you and your child in for this session.

Planting Jack's Beans

During investigations this week, the students are growing and nurturing their own beans, waiting anxiously to see it shoot out.  Within imaginative play, the students are acting out Jack and the Beanstalk, voicing characters and putting their own spin on the end of the story. This term our focus is on fairy-tales, distinctly looking at breaking down the story into characters, setting, beginning, middle and end.  Foundation have been having lots of fun learning and acting out Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Farm trip

Last Friday our Grade One students headed out to Edendale Community Environment Farm for a day of farm filled activities - feeding and petting animals, sowing bean seeds, tasting food items grown in the gardens, checking out composting and worm farms and making their very own bush creatures to bring home.  Here are a few snaps of the day:

Whole School Cross Country

On Tuesday 4 May (next week) we will be running the Cross Country for all students, from 12:00-3:20pm. Parental support is needed to ensure this event runs safely and smoothly. More parent helpers are required on the day, if you are able to assist on the day Fiona Pumpa would love to hear from you.  Please send an email through to the school or ring up to volunteer.

Mother's Day Stall

Shh!  Don't tell mum! Next Friday 7 May our Parent's Association will be running the Mother's Day Stall.  Notices went home yesterday asking for donations/volunteers.  If you have time next Thursday evening (6 May) or at the stall (7 May) please call through to the office to register.

Grade 5/6 Clubs

Thursday afternoons in Grade 5/6 are a buzz with student led club activities.  There is a Rubics Club, Buddy Planning Club, IT Club, Art Club, Fitness Club and running concurrently is the Bush Talk Program.  Check out these photos from today:

eSafety guide

Getting reliable, valuable advice about online safety for your children is often difficult.  The eSafety Commission are running an hour long parent webinar, either during the day or evening, to inform you about setting up devices and apps to help keep kids safe online. There is a flyer and registration details in the Community Announcements section of this newsletter.
