Dear Sacred Heart Community

Anzac Day

Tomorrow our students will stop during the day and participate in our school's ANZAC Day ceremony, to pay respect to the many brave men and women who have sacrificed their wellbeing and lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we live in today.

Father Eloysius

As you know from previous newsletters, we said goodbye to Father Jan last term as he moved on to the next phase of his journey being the spiritual leader of another community. Last week as a parish, we were able to welcome our new Parish Priest Father Eloysius, as he had recovered from some surgery. I have met Father Eloysius on numerous occasions and from our conversations know that he is really keen to keep the ever growing relationship with the school and parish developing.

Coffee Van

Parents may remember the visit by the coffee van last term, with free coffees to parents and guardians as a gesture of thanks for your willingness to work with us in 2020, despite the challenges of COVID. As a result of the success of the day, we are going to have the van at our school each Wednesday morning commencing from the 12th May. Whilst parents and teachers will have to pay for their coffee, we felt that parents might like the opportunity to grab a coffee and have a chat to other parents once our students have gone into their classrooms. The idea is to grow our community and for parents and guardians to feel a sense of connectedness.

School Closure Day

We will be having our first school closure day for the year on Friday 21st May.  On this day our staff will be continuing their work in preparation for our School Review. I will be in contact with Extend to let them know about this date, so that they can organise a whole day of school care. I ask that you please note this date in your diary or on your calendar.

Dance Program

A reminder that we have an afterschool dance program commencing next Thursday 29th April. We currently have 12 students from Years Three to Six enrolled and have three positions still available. If your child is interest in participating in the six week program please see me next week. The sessions run straight after school and are of a one hour duration.

Welcome Demi

A big welcome to our student teacher Demi, who will be with us over the next two weeks working with Denise in Year 2/3. Demi is a familiar face to those students who use the Before and After School Care Program.

School Lunch Orders

A reminder that lunch orders commence next Friday 30th April. Details can be found on the lunch orders page in this newsletter.

Lost Property Clean Out - Wednesday

Dani will be going through our lost property basket this Wednesday, to see what items have a name on them, and ensuring they are returned to the student. The basket is very full, with some items that have no student name on them, having been in the basket for an extensive period. If these items are not collected by Wednesday, they will be washed and put into the school uniform shop to be sold as second hand uniforms. If your child has been missing an item for a while, and you know their name is not on the item, you may want to visit the lost property basket before Wednesday.

Mothers Day Stall

Whilst you will receive further details about the Mother's Day Stall next week, please again note in your diaries or on your calendar, that the stall will occur on Friday 7th May.There will be special instructions for our Year Prep and Year One students  who are experiencing the stall for the first time, also sent home next week.

LSL - Claudia/Myself

Our Italian teacher Claudia will be on well deserved Long Service Leave this term. Claudia has been replaced by Maria Perre, a teacher who I have worked extensively with at my previous school, a teacher we are very lucky to be able to have in our school this term to replace Claudia.

I will also be on Long Service Leave (perhaps not as deserved as Claudia's) for a short period this term. I commence my leave on Monday 3rd May and will be back at work on Wednesday12th May. During my period of absence Liz will be in charge of our school.

Please stay safe

Yours sincerely
