Backflips Against Bullying

Dear Parents,

On Wednesday we elicited the help of 3 energetic and engaging performers in ‘Backflips Against Bullying,’ to continue to educate our students further about defining bullying, the effects of bullying and what to do if we are being bullied or we see bullying.

KIDS HELP LINE: What is bullying?

It's more than just a fight or disliking someone.

It’s being mean to someone over and over again.

Bullying is an ongoing or repeated misuse of power in relationships, with the intention to cause deliberate (on purpose) psychological harm. Bullying behaviours can be verbal, physical or social.

Bullying can happen anywhere – at home, online, with friends, in a group, on the bus or at school.

Student reflections about our whole school incursion, ‘Backflips Against Bullying.’

Navy Prep B: I learnt that bullies might kick someone because they’re bullies but they’re NOT nice. They hurt people.

Tom Prep M: Backflips Against Bullying showed us that we don’t bully because it makes people sad and it might hurt them.

John Year 1: Backflips Against Bullying was great and taught us the lesson- not to bully! Bullying is bad and makes people sad.

Mable Year 2: I learnt that bullying might seem like fun for some, but it’s NOT and it’s NOT TOUGH! It was a fun show.

Catalaya Year 3: Backflips Against Bullying was fun to watch because they taught us about bullying and they did backflips. They said that bullying is NEVER OK, and we need to stand up against bullies and bullying!

Tom H Year 4: Backflips Against Bullying had 3 people who showed us ways that people can be bullied, and that NOT BULLYING is a better result. Thy gave us ideas about what to do if we are bullied. Eg. Retaliation won’t work- the bully will win.

Rupert Year 5: Backflips Against Bullying was quite funny and the presenters were very skilled. They spoke slowly so that we could all understand and the message was- Don’t be rude to people and to help others if people are being rude to them.

Ingrid and Hugo Year 6: Backflips Against Bullying was an inspiration to the classes about what to do about bullying! Everyone listened because backflips are cool and got our attention. We learnt that BYSTANDERS should do something to help- speak up or get the help of an adult!

Take care,

Faye
