Supportive Social Media Connections

Tips, support strategies and resources

With the holidays fast approaching it is timely to remember that our students spend a large proportion outside of school hours communicating with one another via various social media platforms.  Often the connections being made help to develop positive friendships that are formed during their mobile free school days.  There may be times though when interactions are unwanted and can be detrimental to an individual.

Students experiencing negative or unwanted contact can gain support by talking to a trusted friend or family member when they don’t have access to support staff at school over the holiday period.

Advice is readily available via The Project Rockit Action Hub.  A fantastic digital resource that provides quizzes, skills training and links to useful resources and wider support groups.

Navigating this path as a parent can also be challenging.  Guidance for parents to ensure students have safe and productive online experiences is available via the eSafety Commissioner’s Parents site, which provides a range of great tips, support strategies and resources.

As a community we appreciate how vital virtual connection can be.  With these resources we hope students feel safe and empowered during their time online with peers is productive, supportive, and a beneficial one.
