MERCY CAMPUS NEWS

DROP OFF AND COLLECTION FROM MERCY CAMPUS
Parents/Legal Guardians are reminded that when dropping students off at the Mercy Campus by vehicle you must enter the Mercy Campus grounds. There has been an increasing number of students running across Riverside Avenue to meet parents. This is a dangerous situation and puts students at risk.
Please enter the carpark via Eleventh Street, drop your student off at the back gates near the theatre and exit onto Riverside Avenue.
Thank you for your co-operation and commitment to student safety.
YEAR 8 MERCY WORKS
Mercy Works classes started their rotation of community visits. This is a great program and offers students the chance to engage with the local community.
Ms Duscher’s Friday class got to visit the Inland Botanical Gardens. Mr Wayne Hodges took us on a tractor tour of the gardens where we learnt a lot of information about the gardens, plants and the work and importance of volunteers. This was a good opportunity for students to see what happens and may be offer their services to the gardens during Terms 2 and 3.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP SUMMIT
On March 18 our Year 8 student leadership team went to the Mildura Golf Club to participate in the Youth Engagement Services Program. In the morning we were involved in different group activities to help us practice and learn the true meaning of leadership and the importance of setting goals. We also had the chance to collaborate with other schools and share our ideas with them. In the afternoon college students were split into two groups and we had to come up with projects to bring back and implement within our school. One group decided to work on sustainability and how the college can improve with recycling. The other group were going to raise money to help improve the Mercy Campus. Overall it was a great day and we all learnt a lot.

SAFER BUS TRAVEL PRESENTATION
On March 22 we had a guest speaker, Dr Michael Kennedy OAM come and talk to us about safe travel on public transport it was a very engaging presentation and we learnt a lot. Dr Kennedy spoke about how we need to think about our actions on public transport and how it can affect others. We went over all of the rules and why they are needed. He gave us real life examples of how young people have been badly hurt because of other people’s poor decisions while using public transport.
