This Girl Can

Encouraging an active lifestyle

By age 14, girls are dropping out of sports at twice the rate that boys are. By age 30, participation rates are below 8% for females in sport. “This Girl Can” is a Victorian campaign to celebrate and support women embracing activity in a way that suits them.

Victorian women have said that they are scared to start new activities for fear of being judged, or not being fit enough to start. Sometimes we all need a reminder that it's perfectly normal to get sweaty and messy when you're having fun and being active.

Northcote High School is embracing the VicHealth campaign and Week 9 this term is “This Girl Can” week. You may have seen the ads on TV. This Girl Can is about empowering women to feel comfortable in their bodies and get active whenever, wherever and however they choose. A group of dedicated female students and staff have come together to organise activities to get female-identifying students active in the school community. Whether you are a regular athlete, or just looking to have a fun time we encourage all female-identifying students & staff to come and have a go during the week. We have a range of activities planned where participation is celebrated, and we hope there is something fun for everyone.

We also encourage everyone to watch the 2020 ads:
