Year 10 work experience - urgent deadline approaching

We launched our 2020 Work Experience program at the beginning of Term 4 in 2019, and the deadline for students to have arranged their placement is almost upon us.

Well done to all those Year 10 students who have submitted their completed work experience arrangement form and OHS certificates.  You are ready to enjoy a week of learning outside of the classroom.

The process of finding a placement can be difficult, and often requires resilience, creative thinking, collaboration, innovation and problem solving… all very important employability skills!  Much of the learning happens through the process of finding a placement.

For those who have not yet completed this task – you need to prioritise:  1.  Securing a placement; 2.  Completing the paperwork; and 3. Completing your OHS Certificates (General and Industry module).  There is lots of support available to you through the MyNHS Careers Page and tutorial teachers.

Year 9 Morrisby program about to launch

Our Year 9 cohort will soon begin their Morrisby Careers Program.  On Tuesday 24 March all students will complete a two hour profiling component, from which they will receive a thorough report outlining strengths and possible career areas to investigate.

Students will each have an appointment with an external Careers Practitioner in the week of 20 - 24 April, where they will learn how to read and understand the report, and how they can continually adjust and fine tune the report as they move through school and transition into further education, training or employment.  Parents have the option of attending the appointment in April if they wish.

Over the coming week students will be receiving information on how the Morrisby profiling works, and they will have an opportunity to complete some practice questions.  It is important that students ensure they bring their fully charged laptop with them to the profiling session on 24 March.

Important RMIT 'Snap program' announcement

RMIT has confirmed that this is the final year that Northcote High School will participate in the School Network Access Program (SNAP).  This program aspires to increase access to tertiary education for students who have experienced socio-economic and other educational disadvantage.  In line with the demographic profiling of Northcote High School, we no longer meet the minimum criteria for participation in the program.  As such, we are being transitioned out of the SNAP program.

The Class of 2020 will be the final cohort from the school to receive SNAP consideration for RMIT programs.

Beyond this year, individual students applying for RMIT programs can still have difficult circumstances considered through the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS), through their VTAC application.
