Junior Class - Mrs Creek

What a delight to see everyone in F-1 well and back at school after the holidays. Those who were sick were definitely missed.  We are enjoying a funny shared story this week called, ‘The Silly Sheepdog’.  Our class is learning about characters in stories.  In this story, the characters are: Mrs Boot, Ted, Poppy, Sam and the two dogs Rusty and Patch.  We are also learning to recognize verbs in sentences.  Foundation students are making a start with writing on the lines, as well as, hearing sounds in three-letter words.  Year 1 students are working diligently on their counting and representing it by tens and ones.  The Foundation students are stating numbers just before or just after a given number.  We are also getting better at understanding position words.  I have appreciated the prayers of the students in the morning.

Middle Class - Miss Williams

We had a lovely day on Monday getting back together again for Term 2.  We discussed all the things we had completed on the holidays and got into our learning again.  We are very excited to be back to using the iPads more regularly in class and Miss Williams has set them up for us to use during reading and maths.  Keep a look out for login details to access Seesaw at home.  Everyday so far this term each student has uploaded at least one piece of work to Seesaw, so you will be able to see what we have been doing in class!  In reading we have been reading a persuasive text and learning about features of this text type.  We have carried this over into our writing where we have been writing persuasive texts.  We have worked on writing a persuasive text about whether school holidays should go for longer or not.  There have been some very interesting arguments for and against this topic.  In maths we have been working on module 3 in Stepping Stones and have been going over place value again for Year 2 students and revising multiplication for Year 3 students.

Senior Class - Miss Walker

Term 2 has begun!  It was wonderful to see everyone back again feeling refreshed and ready to learn.  We started off the week by introducing some adjustments to the routine and revisited expectations.  We attempted to compete in Athletics on Tuesday but the weather didn’t seem to cooperate.  Hopefully Friday will bring us better luck!  This week in reading, we have been exploring posters depicting different aspects of ANZAC Day.   We’ve looked at acronyms and symbols being used, as well new vocabulary.  In writing, we completed a pre-test for our persuasive unit and have started working on rhetorical questions.  We were able to use some when designing an advertisement for luxury accommodation.  Our integrated studies unit ‘Into the Unknown’ saw us looking at change.  The students had to match up pictures of old and new objects such as games, phones, transport etc.  We also explored how navigation techniques have changed over time for explorers.

Little Joey

This week we continue to acknowledge the significant role of the "Brown Joeys" in the establishment of St Patrick's School, and recognised Sophie with a Little Joey award.  Our Little Joeys receive a certificate, sticker and a voucher/goods donated by a local business.  This week's voucher was donated by Cambrelle's.  We are very grateful for the contributions from our local businesses.
