Years 4 - 6 Swimming

In week 2 of term 4, the Years 4 – 6 students participated in their annual swimming lessons. On Monday, the students were assessed on their swimming and divided into various groups, which allowed them to participate in activities suited to their experience level. All the students did a great job in pushing themselves and had a great time in the process, it was nice for them to get back in the pool for lessons after a couple of years without them.

Thank you to the staff and parents who helped in supporting our students.

Year 5 and 6 Community Walk

On Wednesday, the 5th of October, the Year 5 and 6 students embarked on their ‘Entry Event’ for our Term 4 PBL unit, ‘What’s my Business’, using the community as our school campus. We participated in a ‘Community Walk’ to help us unpack our driving question, 'How might we use our voice to empower and support people from impoverished communities to develop sustainable systems for the future?' A significant aim of this activity was to consider the types of shops, businesses, and services that are part of our local area. This allowed us to better classify and describe their purposes for the community.

As part of our ‘Community Walk’, we also explored which shops and businesses addressed a ‘want’ or a ‘need’. Many of our learners were surprised by the number of businesses, shops and services that are part of the Lakeside hub. They were also particularly interested in the number of medical services that address a ‘need’! (For example, the medical centre, psychologist, optometrist, and so on! Unfortunately, we were led to conclude that coffee from Frankie’s is a want – as much as the teachers feel we need it!)

Many conversations have followed our jaunt around the local Lakeside area, and we are looking forward to the rest of our learning this term. We are incredibly excited to start our own small businesses to raise funds in support of the Australian Lutheran World Service, and the vital work they do to empower and support impoverished communities.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

On Monday 10th of October the Year One and Year Two students invited their grandparents and special friends to share a special morning with us at school. This term we are investigating how we can share and record our histories.

We asked our grandparents and special friends to join us in sharing some special memories, as well as how their lives were different when they were in school, compared to our lives now.

We loved having these special people with us for the morning and look forward to finding out more about how other people have recorded their memories throughout history.

Thank you so much to all of the grandparents and special friends who joined us on the day.
