Message from the Principal

Dear Families

Welcome to Term 4 – I trust everyone has had a restful and well-deserved break, and each of you is looking forward to the beginning of the last term for 2022.

As you know Maria Barnes will be taking Long Service Leave for the first three weeks of term and I wish her a wonderful break.

Term 4 is a very busy term where there are special ceremonies and events to mark the transitions to the next phase of our students’ learning journeys.   We will be welcoming our 2023 Prep students for two orientation sessions onsite.  We will have orientation sessions for our Prep to Year 5 students who will spend some time with their teachers and class group for 2023 and we will celebrate the graduation of our Year 6 students who will be transitioning to secondary school next year.

We have SLA camp coming up next week.  The students will be going to Lady Northcote camp in Glenmore.  I am sure they are very busy preparing for this special experience.  For our Year 6 students, this is not only their last camp experience in Primary School but also their first since they were in Year 3 due to the pandemic.  I wish all our students a wonderful time together.

Later in the term in Week 6, our MLA students will attend their camp at Briar’s Outdoor Education Camp in Mount Martha.  Our Year 4 students were fortunate to have attended their camp last year just days before a lockdown.   For our Year 3 students this will be a new experience.  Further information will be provided to the MLA families in the next week.

This year we will host an Art Show.  Connie Bof has been working with the students during Art lessons to produce the final pieces which will be on display.  The Show will occur on  15th  November between 5 - 8pm so please note this date on your calendars.   Additional important events to note are our School Athletics day, the Fun Run, and our Carols evening.

This is also a term when leaders and staff will begin to plan for next year.  We will be developing our strategic annual action plan keeping in mind the school will also be involved in a Review that occurs every four years.

Mobile Phones at School:

Students who bring their mobile phones at school need to drop them off at the office at the beginning of the day and they will collect them at the end of the day.  Students are not to use their phones whilst on the school grounds.  Please consider the necessity of your child having their phone at school.

Finally, a gentle reminder. Your child’s safety, wellbeing and learning are our priorities.  When there are concerns or breaches of expected behaviours, the school follows clear policies, processes, and procedures to work through the challenges to ensure positive outcomes for all.  These policies are provided by Melbourne Archdiocese of Catholic Schools (MACS) and they are a legal requirement.  At enrolment parents/ guardians agree to follow these.

In the event that you have a concern related to your child, please contact the school to arrange a meeting and we will discuss your concerns.  It is not helpful and at times counter-productive when the school is advised only after other parents have been involved.   All matters discussed remain confidential.   We discuss the concern and do not name any other students involved.  Please also remember that all parents/guardians have signed a Parent Code of Conduct which outlines the appropriate behaviour expected of parents when onsite.

May St Joseph the Worker continue to bless us and watch over us.

Kind regards

Maria Raso
