From the Principal

Benvenuto - Welcome

Welcome back to Term 4. What an eventful start to the term, beginning with our Year 8 students heading off to Harrietville for their camp experience. The students and staff had a wonderful time, strengthening relationships and challenging themselves with the adventure activities. Further coverage of the Year 8 camp can be found on the Learning Updates - School of Innovation page.

Week 2 was a mixed bag of experiences, beginning with the incredibly successful running of our very first college production – Annie JR. Feedback from the audiences so far has been very positive, and the experience for the students has been something that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Director extraordinaire Sean O’Brien has been so proud of the commitment, bravery and teamwork of the cast and crew. Unfortunately, due to the forecast of extreme weather and flooding events, we had to postpone the Thursday and Friday night showings; these will now be held on Thursday and Friday this coming week. Please head to the College Production page in this edition for photo coverage of Annie JR.

Our School of Wonder children participated in their annual swimming program this past week. Even though weather conditions weren’t the best for swimming, an indoor venue and enthusiasm from the children ensured a successful program. We also had some successful entries in the Henry Lawson Poetry Competition. Please go to the Learning Updates - School of Wonder page to find out about the awards our Year 3 children received.

Some of our young people participated in the next level of district athletics competition at the Hume District finals for our region. A total of eight medals were won with six individual medallists for the day. Further coverage can be found on the Sports News page.

In relation to the weather and flooding forecasts, after careful consideration and consultation with various parties regarding the flooding and weather situation, and in line with Catholic Education Sandhurst Ltd Guidelines, we took the action of asking families to keep their children and young people at home, where possible, on Friday due to the unpredictable nature of the weather and flood conditions. We thank all our families for your continued support in ensuring the safety of all of our community members. We continue to pray for those impacted by the floods and those who are anxiously waiting to see what happens next; there are many within the St Anne’s community who have and will be affected in the coming days. Today we made the announcement that tomorrow, Monday, October 17, will be a school closure day because of the impact the floods are having on our community. Information about the closure was emailed to families today, is available on PAM and is also attached below. Please take the time to read this important information. Stay safe and take care.
