Biology & Chemistry
Our Year 12 students are approaching the end of their studies and several excursions linked to their science courses and several subjects have been on excursions to extend and consolidate their understanding.
Year 11 and 12 Biology students recently completed an excursion to explore the evolutionary theory. Year 11 and 12 Chemistry students completed an excursion to KIOSC where they participated in an instrumental analysis workshop.
Year 11 chemistry students were able to conduct a number of experiments involving spectroscopy and chromatography using specialized equipment that costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. For Year 12 students, Infrared spectroscopy and chromatography are essential analysis tools and they are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of how to analyses the data from these instrumental techniques. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to actually use these instruments and examine how changes to the instrument conditions affected their results.
