Colour Fun Run

The sun was out early for what was to be a a fun filled day on Wednesday.  The annual Colour Fun Run is always a highlight for our students and this year did not disappoint. Thank you to the parents who came along to watch and for those families who have raised money for our school.  Please see some of the amazing photos in this newsletter issue.

Year 6 Graduation

Our Year 6 Graduation will be held in the school gym on Monday 19th December.  This is a time for our Year 6 students and their parents/carers to celebrate them graduating primary school.  This year students will participate in a formal graduation where certificates and scholarships will be awarded, before celebrating with a Year 6 disco and dinner.  Currently our staff are busy finalising the finer details of the night, but invitations and RSVP's have been Compass messaged to all parents.  Please contact your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions.  We cannot wait to celebrate the achievements of our Year 6 cohort!

Policies

We have recently updated our school's Anaphylaxis Policy.  Please have a read and if you have any feedback contact Hayley Taylor.  This policy, along with our other current school policies can be found on our website here: https://clydeps.vic.edu.au/about-us/#policies

Christmas Carols

It has been a long time waiting, but our Christmas Carols picnic is back for the first time in a few years!  On Thursday 8th December, we invite families to join us on the school oval from 5:30pm for a BYO picnic.  Bring along some nibbles, a picnic rug or camp chair and find a spot to watch the carols from.  Please note this is a pet, alcohol and smoke-free event.

Students generally wear Christmas themed clothing, however, class teachers will be in touch with parents if a specific item (e.g reindeer antlers) are required for their class' performance.

The Concert then starts at 6:00pm, where each class will perform to one Christmas song.  During the evening, our Christmas Raffle prizes will be drawn. Raffle tickets go on sale from Monday 21st November.

A sausage sizzle will also be run on the night to raise funds for our school.  The event will finish at roughly 7:30pm.

The following day, Friday 9th December is a Curriculum Day, no students attend on this day.

Donations

Whilst we have been donated the sausages for our Christmas Carols, we are looking for donations of cans of soft drinks and bottled water to also sell on the night . Next time you are out at the shops, it would be greatly appreciated if you could get some drinks or raffle prizes and drop them off at the school office.

COVID Advice

As you may be aware the mandatory isolation regulations have ended for people who test positive to COVID-19.

The latest guidance states that students who receive a positive result are recommended to isolate for a minimum of 5 days and not attend school until their symptoms have resolved.  Parents are welcome to inform the school of a positive result by phone or written notification.

If a student does receive a positive result and is well enough to attend school the Department of Health recommends that masks should be worn for at least 7 days after a positive test when they need to leave home.

We are aware that this relaxation of regulations may result in students who test positive attending school.  To minimise transmission, staff, students and visitors to schools should continue to practise good hand hygiene, particularly on arrival to school, before and after eating, after blowing their nose, coughing, sneezing or using the toilet.  Our staff will continue to direct or supervise young students where required, in order to also follow this recommendation.

The Department of Health encourages school-aged children to wear face masks indoors in a public space or outside in a crowded place where they can't physically distance.  This is especially if they are at a higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19.

SRC Fundraiser

Following consultation with students throughout the school, our Student Representative Council have chosen to hold a Crazy Hair Day to raise funds for the SES who are assisting Australian people with flood relief.  On the 25th November students and staff are invited to

wear their hair in the craziest way possible at school and bring a gold coin donation which will be collected by our Student Council Representatives.  We look forward to seeing some weird and wonderful hairstyles on that day.

Our Sandpit

Our new sandpit opened yesterday much to the delight of our students in F-Year 4.

Remembrance Day

Today is Remembrance Day where we remember those who have served and those who have died in all wars and peacekeeping operations. Remembrance Day marks the date in 1918 when the First World War came to an end. It is officially observed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month each year.

This morning a commemoration ceremony was held in the school gymnasium and at 11:00 am all staff and students participated in a one minute’s silence to remember people’s service and sacrifice.  Between 10:30 am today and 11:02am the Australian national flag was also lowered to half-mast as a sign of respect.

Student Leader Process

Our Year 5 students have all been given information regarding leadership positions for 2023 and those who have wished to apply have handed in their applications today. Students applying for School Captain, Vice Captain and House Captain positions will be given an opportunity to present their speeches to their teachers and class mates before completing an interview process.

Students who are applying for other leadership roles will have their application read by various staff at school, who will consult to determine the best candidate for each position. Successful applicants for all positions notified by the end of the week of November 21st – 25th.  Our new student leaders for 2023 will then be presented to the school community at the final whole school assembly on Monday 5th December.
