Assistant Principal

Year 7 & 8

On Tuesday the 25th of October we had the pleasure of welcoming our 2023 year 7 students to the college for our ‘Getting to Know You Day’. This was the first opportunity for the newest students to our school to have their first experience at the college and of secondary school life.

It was an exciting day for both the visiting year 6 students and current students at the school who also re-connected with old friends and relatives from their old primary schools. It was wonderful to see students being supportive and welcoming.

During the ‘Getting to Know You Day’, year 6 student participated in a number of activities that focused on providing Lalor Secondary with an insight into themselves and their educational needs. Year 6 students completed tasks ranging from reading to numeracy to abstract and general achievement. They also completed surveys that detail their learning styles as well as personal interests. Our next important date is the Year 7 Information Evening that will be occurring on November 10th.

Last week our year 8 student participated in the Docklands Fieldwork Excursion. On this wet and challenging day, students travelled to the city to explore the Docklands area and collect data with regards to the causes and consequences of urban settlement. This data is going to be analysed to make comparisons between suburbanization and urban renewal and to draw conclusions on how Australia can plan for its urban future.

From the 26th of October to the 4th of November our Advance students have/will be braving the elements on their annual camp. The camp sees the students camping two nights along the great ocean road coast experiencing tent life, Trangia cooking, bush walking, surfing and sea kayaking. We cannot wait to see the photos and hear about their experiences in the coming newsletters.

Finally, I would like to thank all the staff at Lalor Secondary College in acknowledgement of World Teachers Day on the 28th of October. Thank you for your continual support and all the amazing things that you do for our students and each other within the junior school and across the college.
