Principal's Report

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work, learn and play. We pay respect to Wurundjeri elders past, present and emerging and extend our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families of Bimbadeen Heights Primary School.

Staff Professional Learning

Today, our staff participated in their final professional learning session with Misty Adoniou, from Canberra University as part of the Lilydale District Network of schools’ focus on improving writing outcomes for our students.

While our families enjoyed a head-start on the long-weekend, our staff worked with teachers and leaders from Mooroolbark East and Montrose Primary Schools, to deepen their knowledge and craft in teaching writing through scaffolded literacy instruction. Throughout this year, our staff have delved deeper into the craft of writing, and how we can support our students’ writing development using rich mentor texts, Text and Language Orientations, Transformations, Co-constructed Writing and Pattered Writing.

The focus of today’s learning was on word study and grammar.

Our dedicated teachers also spent time designing teaching and learning units of work to embed these elements into their literacy programs.

2022 Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge

Congratulations to our students who have successfully completed the 2022 Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge.

All students who completed the challenge this year will be provided with a certificate, recognising their achievement. Bimbadeen students are among the 66,000 school students who completed the Premier’s Reading challenge this year. Together, they read a remarkable 2.9 million books in total.

Supporting children’s reading is one of the most important things we can do to encourage their love of learning – opening a gateway for them to find out more about the world around them.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge wouldn’t be possible without the support of our passionate and dedicated teachers, support staff and Karin Sansom, our Librarian, and the support of our parents and carers at home.

Regional Athletics Championships

Congratulations to our students who competed in the Regional Athletics Competition last week.

Sienna M (1500m), Lucca L (100m, High Jump), Darcy N (Hurdles), Luke F (High Jump), Pat J (High Jump) and Grace O (Shot Put) represented our school with pride and demonstrated great sportsmanship throughout the competition.

We are very proud of your effort and determination.

A special thank you to the parents and carers who went along to support the team.

Hooptime Regional Basketball Competitions

Congratulations to our Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students who have competed at the Hooptime Regional Basketball All Star and Future Star competitions over the past two weeks.

We were so proud of the sportsmanship, camaraderie and support our students have shown throughout the competitions, and their teamwork and resilience when facing formidable opponents.

A special thank you to our parents, carers and former students who volunteered their time to coach our teams, to our teachers who supported the events, and to the parents and carers who went along to support their children and cheer on their team.

Good luck to our Year 5 and 6 Future Stars team who are competing at the State Basketball Centre today!

Grandparents’ Day

There was a buzz in the air on Thursday when our students in Foundation hosted their Grandparents and special friends for an afternoon of celebration for

Grandparents’ Day.

It is always such an exciting time when our students share their learning and show off their school to their loved ones.

A highlight of the afternoon was exploring the Book Fair on display in the library, and guided tours of the special places around our school. We hope many of our Grandparents and special friends consider joining our parent and carer helper program and visit us more often.

Thank you for supporting our students to be the best they can be and encouraging them to reach for the heights.

We hope you enjoy a lovely weekend with your family, and we look forward to another fantastic week of learning at Bimbadeen.

Kind regards,

Adele Gregson and Sabrina George
