INSPIRING CURIOUS MINDS

OUR FOCUS FOR TERM 4 IS GARDENING!

AUSTRALIAN POLLINATOR WEEK 2022 NOVEMBER 12 - 20

Dr Megan Halcroft founded Pollinator Week in 2015, it is a week to raise awareness and celebrate our pollinators. Pollinators include animals such as bees, butterflies, wasps, birds and bats. Pollination allows for plants to grow, produce seeds, nuts and fruits that feed animals and us! In fact over 75% of the world's food crops rely on animal pollinators. That's a lot so it’s important that we look after these hard working pollinators.

The Pollinator Week mascot is Rita the Reed Bee, who is native to Australia. She is a strong and hardworking pollinator!

There are a number of things you can do to celebrate Australian Pollinator Week:

  • Enjoy a picnic
  • Create a pollinator garden
  • Print out a Rita colouring page go here
  • Try and help the bee get to the flower in the maze below
  • Test your knowledge in the crossword below
  • Join the Waggle Dance Challenge!
  • Click on the link to go to the website (go to About / then Resources) for lots more things to do including mazes, puzzles and colouring in.

Remember, we would love to hear from our incredible SMPPS families too, if you have a favourite spot or a way that you contribute to and use gardens that helps our environment please send your information and/or photos to Cath Feast on catherine.feast@education.vic.gov.au.

As the weather warms up this is the perfect time to be out and about so a great match to our focus for this term!
