Junior School

Year 1

The Year 1 class have been reading the story Chicks and Salsa. Along with learning the characters of the story and the setting, extending their vocabulary has also been a goal. One of the focus words from the story was “aroma”. The Year 1 students wrote some very interesting responses when writing about their favourite aroma:

"My favourite aroma is Nachos. In the ingredients there are Nachos, Cheese and Meat. My Mum cooks it. I eat it at the dinner table. It is my favourite aroma because I love the aroma of Nachos".
Alyra

"My favourite aroma is Pizza. My Dad makes it. I like it. It is amazing. It’s like a square Pizza. It’s delicious".
Jordy

"My favourite aroma is Pizza and Chips. Inside the Pizza is Cheese, Ham and Pineapple and the sauce is on the base of the Pizza".
George

"The recipe for Pizza. You have to get a Pizza base with a tray. Put the Pizza base on the tray and put the Cheese on and put it in the oven and then take it out. The person who cooked it was me and Mum. The aroma of Pizza is good".
Henry D

"My favourite aroma is Chickpea Curry and Pappadums. My Dad usually makes it but my Mum also makes it. The ingredients are Rice, Curry and Chickpeas. I think you heat it up and then it’s ready".
Joey

"Tuna Pasta bake. My Mum makes Tuna Pasta bake. I love it because of the Tuna we only have it when Mum hasn’t cooked anything and doesn’t want to go out and get something. Mum makes it at Christmas for dinner or for lunch sometimes. My family will come over for dinner and Mum will make Tuna Pasta bake and my nana will bring Chocolate Cake. It is really yum for birthdays. Nana makes it and Pumpkin Cake when I come over".
Mollie

"My favourite aroma is KFC. I don’t have it often. I usually have Chicken Nuggets and Chips".

Year 2

This week, the Year 2 students had their Sleepover at School and trip to Flagstaff Hill. Here are some of their thoughts on the experience:

Today at the Year 2 camp my class was so excited for tonight because we were having a sleepover! My mum helped me set up all my stuff and then she left. I said, “Bye mum”. I started to cry a little bit but I was okay. Mrs Burgess, Mrs Ballinger and Mr Ballinger took us outside to play on the Year 4 playground. Mrs Ballinger and Mr Ballinger went to cook some dinner. When it was dinner time we had Spaghetti (I don’t like the Spaghetti sauce, but I ate it). After dinner we played games: hockey, fruit salad, Oreo and then we played with modelling clay. We were getting tired. Then we got to brush our teeth and tie our hair. After that we got in our PJ’s and read a book in bed and went to sleep.

I got to school with all my stuff and then I set up the stuff and so we lined up and went to the Year 4 play equipment and played there and then we had dinner. For dinner, I had Spaghetti Bolognaise and then we played Hockey and fruit salad and the Oreo game and we got to make some stuff out of modelling clay and so we got our PJ's on and went asleep. In the morning we had breakfast and went on the bus and went to Flagstaff Hill and we went to the old School and after that we made Scones with cream and jam and we did the Sea Chest Challenge and went to see the lighthouse and went to the Examiner’s Office (printing) and got back on the bus and played dead fish and had icy-poles.

It was the Year 2 Sleepover and we drove to School, we walked in to School and we set up our beds then we played on the Year 4 playground. Some of the kids played cats and mice. We went inside then we had Spaghetti Bolognaise. It was delicious. Mrs Burgess said it was game time. First we played Hockey and sunflowers won. Then we played Fruit Salad and sunflowers won again so that means that tigers lost. Then it was people versus Oreo. It was a big fight. Now it’s time to quiet down by playing with modelling clay. It is time to get ready for bed. We brushed our teeth and got into PJs and got into bed and read a book. Time to turn the lights off. Sleep time. Good night.

On the day of the sleepover, we were in School. We had dinner then we played games. The games were Hockey, fruit salad and Oreos. Then we were calming down with some clay. Then we went to bed. In the morning we had breakfast. Then we went to get our costumes. Then we went on the bus to Flagstaff Hill. First we went to the old School. Then we made Scones with jam and cream. Then we went to the lighthouse. Then we did the Sea Chest Challenge. Then it was time to go on the bus. When we got back to school we had icy-poles.

First, we got to play on the Year 4 play equipment. Next, we got to play games (Hockey, fruit salad, Oreo) before dinner. After we ate dinner. It was Spaghetti Bolognaise. Then we used modelling clay for our creations. After the clay we slept over at School. The next day, we woke up and ate our breakfast. I had four servings of Rice Bubbles. Alex had toast, Ben had his sultana bread cereal. After breakfast, we got on the bus to Flagstaff Hill (our excursion place). After we got to Flagstaff Hill, we got off the bus and walked to Flagstaff Hill in a line of seventeen people. And then we started our activities. The end of what I am writing.
