Bottle Recycling
In Laudato Si, Pope Francis speaks of the urgent challenge to protect our common home by bringing the whole human family together and making sustainable changes. Whilst tackling climate change can seem like a daunting prospect, if we think globally and act locally, we can achieve positive change, bit by bit. Here at St Mary’s, we have bottle recycling bins at various locations around the school. By taking the time to put your plastic bottle in the correct bin, you can have an impact.
Spoken by Grace Endres-Blakeney
The bottles from these bins can be effectively recycled and the College receives 10 cents from every bottle. This year we have used the money raised to purchase various useful items to donate to Ruth’s Women’s Shelter, a community group who provide a safe environment for women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.
Spoken by Lalawa Donigi-Bedford
Grace and Lalawa presented Ms Vendela Wendt from Ruth’s Women’s Shelter Cairns with a donation of essential goods and gift vouchers worth of $910. The donation was made possible through the College’s 10c bottle recycling program and Go Bowling Cairns.
