THISTLELONIAN AWARDS 2021
CHLOE APPS
After the triumphant year Melbourne Football Club had in 2021, I couldn’t be more proud to have my name on the list of Thistelonian recipients this year alongside Max Gawn’s. Receiving this award is truly special and I’m honored McKinnon Secondary College has recognised my achievements alongside many other students.
The ‘McKinnon Magic’ is something that is often talked about by Mrs Binnion during our general assemblies and I can honestly say it's what makes the McKinnon Secondary family so special because as a community we have created a culture which extends beyond the classroom and school gates. A vital part of this culture is taking the time to recognise those students who demonstrate both academic and extra-curricular success, which is what this award is all about. I would like to thank McKinnon Secondary College for continually providing students with so many opportunities as each year is different and memorable and I will remember receiving this award for years to come.
Some of the programs I was able to be a part of last year were the Duke of Edinburgh Award, McKinnon Volleyball Club, Regional Cross Country, Inter-school Debating, and being Gilmore House captain. I am looking forward to embracing the school’s values and continuing to be a leader and an active role model for students in the future. Thank you to all those who nominated me.
ORI LANDAU
I was so honoured to receive the 2021 Thistlelonian Award, and appreciate being recognised for such a prestigious award. This award acknowledges one's academic achievements as well as their involvement in extracurricular activities that are offered at McKinnon. The inclusivity nature of the school provides for a great range of activities and clubs that anyone is able to join and participate in. For me, being a part of McKinnon is an amazing honour, as it is more than a school, it is a community of friendly, caring, and helpful people. I'm grateful for the unique opportunities offered at McKinnon, which I'm sure are not offered elsewhere.
I would like to thank all for this award and look forward to completing my schooling at this amazing school.
