THISTLELONIAN AWARDS 2020
Since 1997, Thistlelonians has presented awards to current Year 9 students; to date over $20,000 has been donated by ex-students and staff. These are awarded to Year 9 students who have demonstrated general excellence and contribution to the College. They are determined by the Year 9 Student Managers based on the recipients’ contribution to the college community.

The McKinnon community does such a great job at providing opportunities and activities for everyone, something they managed to maintain even through a pandemic. I feel privileged to be a recipient of this award, even more so to be a part of a community that values both academic and personal growth and contribution.
I was incredibly proud of my achievements throughout the year and to be recognised for them was really encouraging. I appreciate everyone who has contributed to this award and organisation. It is something truly special. Thank you!
LACHLAN QUINEY
In 2020 I received the Thistlelonians award, an accolade contrived to recognise a chosen student’s academic achievements and their contribution to the McKinnon community.
I am especially humbled and honoured to be the recipient of this award, considering that McKinnon has such a wealth of dedicated, thoughtful and friendly students, all of whom, in my opinion, are as or more qualified than I to collect the thistle.
Bearing this in mind, I thus dedicate this paragraph to these individuals; the people who participate in extracurricular activities and class discussions, the people who give only compassion and kindness to their peers, the people who are respectful of others beliefs and sexualities, the people who labour studiously to achieve the best marks possible for them; and those people whose endeavours go beyond the classroom. McKinnon is so much more than just a campus; it is a community. While this statement may be somewhat cheesy, it is definitely true.

Participating in the multitude of different groups and activities that are on offer at McKinnon, has given me great joy and a sense of belonging in the wider school community.
Now with the added bonus of being honored with such a prestigious award, I truly feel touched that my efforts and involvement were acknowledged. McKinnon is certainly a school that gives everybody the opportunity to thrive. I feel more incorporated in the McKinnon family and hope to continue being a contributing member both in and outside of school. I felt speechless with the generosity of this award, so thank you McKinnon.
