Message from the Principal Team

Principals' Update

Smoking Ceremony

Despite some worrying weather early in the morning, we were able to welcome Auntie Zeta Thomson and her daughter Simone Thomson to our school to conduct the Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country.  The event was a great success and a wonderful experience for the students who demonstrated great respect for this very important process. The students were also able to demonstrate their growing knowledge of Indigenous culture and history, which have been the major focus area of our inquiry this term. A very big thank you to the Reconciliation Action Plan team for their work in supporting this learning in the school and special thanks to Ben and Carla for going above and beyond in helping this all come together.

Janai’s Baby news!

We are thrilled to announce that Janai recently gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Curtis. Both Mum and baby are doing well and we wish them all the very best at this wonderful time.

Welcome (officially!) Gaby

We are pleased to announce that Gaby Shortis has been officially appointed to the position of Administration Coordinator while Janai is on parental leave. It is wonderful to officially welcome Gaby as part of the school staff, despite her being in the role since 26 April.

Safe parking at drop-off and pick-up

There has been an increase in unsafe parking during drop-off and pick-up on both O’Grady Street and Lee Street recently. We appreciate that these times are busy and families are in a hurry, but we urge everyone to exercise extreme caution when parking and dropping off children during these times. Please ensure that you are safely and legally parked before dropping off your children. The safety of the children in our school is our number one priority.

Maths Professional Development

Next Thursday, Keith and Maddi will attend a regional office run School Leader Workshop for Numeracy Improvement.

The workshop will focus on how school leaders offer their school community guidance and support in numeracy improvement

The following ideas and questions will be covered:

Clarify: What we already know about successful school improvement and how this can apply to supporting our school community and building leader and teacher confidence in numeracy improvement.

Understand: Critical connections between mathematics and numeracy.

Evaluate and Diagnose: Where are we now in relation to our maths and numeracy improvement journey? What are some tools and evidence that can assist us to determine our strengths and next areas for attention more accurately?

Act: Implications for taking local action in light of today. What do we need to gather evidence about? What do we need to learn?

This workshop will help support ongoing numeracy improvement within the school.

Queen’s Birthday

A reminder that Monday 13th of June is the Queen’s Birthday public holiday. We hope everyone enjoys some extra time with family and friends this long weekend.
