Catholic Identity

Dear Families,

 Let us Pray….

THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

"I will follow you wherever you go.''

YEAR C    Sunday 26 June    green

Preparing to hear God's word

What does it really mean to follow Jesus?

We can pray, do good deeds, think of other people first and be the best person we can be.

How can you follow Jesus better this week?

The Gospel Story

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the people that they must put Jesus first, above everything else. Sometimes other things may seem very important, but Jesus says that nothing is more important than following him.

The Gospel

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke                  9:57-62

I will follow you wherever you go.

Along the way to Jerusalem someone said to Jesus, "I'll go anywhere with you!"

Jesus said, "Foxes have dens, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man doesn't have a place to call his own."

Jesus told someone else to come with him. But the man said, "Lord, let me wait until I bury my father." Jesus answered, "Let the dead take care of the dead, while you go and tell about God's kingdom."

Then someone said to Jesus, "I want to go with you, Lord, but first let me go back and take care of things at home."

Jesus answered, "Anyone who starts plowing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing in God's kingdom!"

The Gospel of the Lord.                            Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflecting on the Gospel Story......

Following Jesus isn’t always easy. When you have a problem, who do you ask for help?

Jesus helps us through other people.

Think of all the people who love you and help you grow.

Spend some quiet time in prayer, thanking God for these wonderful people.

We were blessed recently to welcome Eva Hernandez into our Parish Community.  She was baptised by Fr. Joy at the 10am Mass (a couple of weeks ago).

CONGRATUALTIONS EVA!

Over the holiday break, Nate & Harlow Jones will be baptised at a 10am Mass and welcomed into our Parish Community.  We wish you all the best for this special occasion Harlow & Nate.

A big thankyou to all families and staff for their support of this Appeal.  All goods donated will be delivered to St Vincent DePaul on Friday 24th June.  Our baskets are overflowing with the goods that represent your love and support of those at the centre of our Appeal.  THANK YOU!

Our warm milos have been a huge success!  The Catholic Identity team have been overwhelmed by student’s support of this - a warm milo hits the spot on a cold morning!

The last milo morning is tomorrow, Thursday.

All moneys raised will go to the St Vincent DePaul Winter Appeal.  So far we have raised over $250.

Founders Week

This week we are celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart with Mass on Friday at 9.15am and following this students are working on activities around the Mercy Sisters that made significant contributions to our Mercy History here at Sacred Heart.

Each of our Sporting Houses are named after significant Sisters of Mercy:

They were named in 2012:  McAuley (gold); Geary (red); & Frayne (blue) after Sr. Catherine McAuley, Sr. Ursula Frayne and Sr. Alphonsus Geary.

Why these ladies:

Sr Alphonsus was the first Principal of Sacred Heart School from 1913-1924.  Born in Ireland and died and was buried at the Tatura Cemetery.

Catherine was the founder of the Sisters of Mercy. She was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1778 and died on 11 November 1841.

Ursula was the first Sister of Mercy to come to Australia. She was born on the 5 October 1816 in Dublin, Ireland and died on the 9 June 1885, Fitzroy, Victoria.

On Friday part of our activities includes a talk with Sr. Pam Barlow on the Mercy Values and history for all students.

Our Mercy Values are

COMPASSION

“The tender mercy of God has given us one another”

Catherine McAuley

JUSTICE

“God knows that I would rather be cold and hungry than that the poor… should be deprived of any consolation in my power to afford them.”

Catherine McAuley to Mary Teresa White, November 1, 1838

SERVICE

“You should be like a shining lamp giving light to all around you”

Catherine McAuley

CARE FOR THE POOR AND THE VULNERABLE

“Try to meet all with peace and love.”

RESPECT FOR HUMAN DIGNITY

We are all made in the image of God.
