Brain Olympia Final

On Tuesday I was lucky enough to take two teams of hardworking students to compete in the Brain Olympia Final in Narrabri. The St Edward’s ‘Mighty Minds’ and ‘Quizzards’ were a credit to their school in the manner in which they behaved and performed on the day. The students competed against a number of schools in a test of general knowledge, mathematical skills, public speaking and drama. Although we didn’t manage to win this year, all the scores were very close and the participating students should be very proud of their efforts. A special thank you to Mrs Cartan for accompanying us and Mr Hatton for driving us.

Mighty Minds:  Chloe Rex, Thomas Errington, Ella Murray, Maddie Studte, Paige McMillan, Lilly Androutsos, Sam Studte & Riley Miller.

The Quizards: Hannah Pawsey,  Luke Fensbo, Sam Salvestrin, Alexis Masters, Jimmy He, Tahl Handsley, Lara Cartan & Tom Jefferys.

STEAM Fair/Expo

A VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE - PLEASE READ

With apologies to anyone who may be affected by this, there have been some late changes and the first session (2.00pm - 3.00pm) for this STEAM EXPO, 19th November, HAS BEEN CANCELLED. The 2nd Session will now run from 5.00pm - 6.30pm.

The reasons for this decision are as follows.

With the EXPO using the Primary Hall, the Art/Steam Space & the Asphalt Area at the front of Hall, the  2.00pm - 3.00pm session presented logistical issues with ensuring safety of all visitors, students and parents on pickup. As we are hoping for a humongous crowd, parking would have also been an issue.

The whole aim of the Expo is to have students with their parents, taking them around on a Code Scavenger Hunt, showing and demonstrating to you, all the amazing technologies and the very clever ways they are able to use them. We want to present a Family Event. This would have been very difficult to achieve in the first session.

Thank you for your understanding in this regard and we really look forward to seeing you all at our hands on 'Come Play Learn!' Our dream crowd number is over 500! We set Lofty Dreams, but with over 20 great fun STEAM Stations, 20 Dream Team STEAM tutors (in the form of students), you are positively guaranteed to set full ‘STEAM’ ahead on a great family evening!

School Fees

A reminder that Term 4 school fees are due for payment on Friday 22nd November.  We are aware of financial difficulties facing people in these hard times and are more than happy to talk with families experiencing problems. Please make contact with Stefan van Aanholt, Principal, by phone or by appointment to discuss your financial responsibilities.  It is vital that you do make contact. Please note: Fees may be paid by cash, cheque, internet banking, EFTPOS, Qkr!, credit card or direct debit (through the Armidale Diocesan Investment Group, at no cost to you). If you would like to pay by direct debit which is by weekly, fortnightly or monthly payments, please contact either office for the relevant information.

Leaving or Relocating??

Planning for the 2020 school year is well underway. Over the coming weeks we will be placing students in classes for 2020.  If your child is currently in K – Year 5 and you will NOT be returning to St Edward’s in 2020, please let the school know in writing as soon as possible. Thank you to the families who have already notified the school regarding changes for 2020.

2020 School Travel Applications Now Open

Applications for student travel in 2020 opened on Friday 11th October 2019.

Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 no longer need to re-apply if they:

·  are continuing at the same school;

·  are residing at the same address;

·  have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.

Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification via email.

Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.

Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.

If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails

Applications need to be submitted before 31st December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31st December 2019, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to be issued.

Students residing in Rural and Regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the commencement of the new school year from their nominated operator, this may be distributed via the school or sent direct to their address. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students/Parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.
