Second Hand Uniform Stall

There will be a Second Hand Uniform Sale on Friday 21st June 3:15pm to 3:45pm.

Cash only, please bring small denominations as limited change will be available. 

If you are able to lend a hand with the second hand uniform sales this year please contact Brodie in the office or speak to the ladies at the stall on this day. 

Library

Scholastic Book Club orders/payments are due by Friday 14th June. 

 

Payments are to be made directly to Scholastic using the payment options on the brochure. Ormond Primary School does not collect any payments. 

No late orders will be accepted to ensure prompt delivery by the end of the school term. 

 

If your orders are for gifts and you do not want your children to see, please contact the office or Sue in the library to arrange a parent pick up. 

 

Overdue Library Books

Overdue library book notices were sent home last week. Parents are asked to please help their child find their book and return them to the library as soon as possible. 

 

If you have any concerns or questions, please visit the school library or contact the front office. 

Nude Food

Nude food is a program we run at school that encourages students to bring no rubbish to school. We are very proud of our beautiful school and by limiting the amount of rubbish we can keep our school clean and send less rubbish to land fill. Lately we have been noticing a lot more rubbish than usual around the school so we are asking the school community to get on board and help us get back into good habits. 

 

We will collect each grade's nude food points once a week on random days to encourage students to bring a rubbish free lunch as often as they can. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Respectful Relationships

Ormond and the ‘Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships’ Program.

Respectful Relationships is an initiative to support schools and early childhood education settings to promote and model respect and equality. It also supports educators to teach children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence. 2019 is Ormonds first full year running the ‘Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships’ program. The program runs within the Personal and Social capabilities strand of the curriculum and thus is coordinated by the Ormond Wellbeing action team at school. The teaching is organised into eight substrands and two of these are delivered each term. The parent community will be invited to learn and participate in activities throughout the remainder of the year. Stay tuned for these notifications and dates.

 

Program background

The Royal Commission into Family Violence identified the critical role that schools and early childhood education have in creating a culture of respect to change the story of family violence for future generations.

In 2016, respectful relationships education became a core component of the Victorian Curriculum from foundation to year 12, and is being taught in all government and Catholic schools and many independent schools.

Everyone in our community deserves to be respected, valued and treated equally. We know that changes in attitudes and behaviours can be achieved when positive attitudes, behaviours and equality are embedded in our education settings.

 

Respectful Relationships is about embedding a culture of respect and equality across our entire community, from our classrooms to staffrooms, sporting fields, fetes and social events. This approach leads to positive impacts on student’s academic outcomes, their mental health, classroom behaviour, and relationships between teachers and students.

 

Together, we can lead the way in saying yes to respect and equality, and creating genuine and lasting change so that every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.​

 

Resilience, rights and respectful relationships teaching and learning materials

Resilience, rights and respectful relationships is a suite of teaching and learning materials for Foundation to year 12.

The resources have been developed by experts from Deakin University and the University of Melbourne. These age-appropriate resources support curriculum delivery and include lesson plans and activities that help students learn and practice social skills and apply them in a positive way to learning, life and relationships.

 

The materials cover eight social and emotional learning topics to support the delivery of respectful relationships content through the Victorian curriculum.

 

The resources support a whole school approach to creating equal and respectful attitudes, behaviours, structures and practices across the school culture and ethos.​​

Foundation News

We are coming to the end of term 2! Only three weeks left. What a busy term we have had!

Last week all the students participated in the walkathon. We were very lucky with the weather we had on the day and all the students really enjoyed the whole experience!

 

In Literacy, the word of the week is WAX with the focus on ‘w’ and ‘x’. After that our word will be VET with the introduction of the letter ‘v’ followed by the word CAR where we will focus on the letter ‘a’ and ‘r’. After this, we will have learnt almost every letter of the alphabet, except for Kk and Qq. The children are doing tremendously well with the learning of their magic 100 words.

 

When reading at home, to see if your child has understood a story read to them, some questions you could ask are: Tell me what happened in the story? What was your favourite part? Why? If you were in the book, which character would you want to be? Why? Do you think this story is true? Why or why not?

 

Keep uploading books read to your child onto the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) site using your child’s user name and password.

 

As part of the Humanities program, we will be having a visit from the Fire Brigade on Thursday 13th and Friday 21st. On Friday 14th June, we will participate in the RACV Street Scene program. The children will be involved in learning to be safe as a pedestrian, bike rider and when catching public transport.

Year 5 News

Sovereign Hill

On Thursday 6th June the Year Five students went to Sovereign Hill. It was a great day and really helped everyone understand more about what the Gold Rush was like in Ballarat. The weather was chilly but nothing we couldn’t handle!

We ventured into a mine to find out what it was like for the ‘digger’ and saw the largest gold nugget ever found on the goldfield. Also, we played a game called ‘Gold Fever’ which reenacted what it was like for the miners, dealing with the police and having licenses to dig, which was what cause the Eureka Stockade. Finally we got to explore the shops and streets at Sovereign Hill, it was like stepping back to the 1850’s. There were so many things to see and do, we could have spent much more time immersing ourselves.

PE & Sport News

Division Cross Country 

Congratulations to Elliot C and Bella M for competing in the Division Cross Country Carnival on Thursday June 6th at Cornish College. They both did Ormond Primary school really proud displaying our school values. It was great to see their hard work pay off at such a high level. Both Elliot and Bella ran amazingly and should be really proud of themselves. GO ORMOND!!

Walk-a-thon 

It was terrific to see students, teachers and parents enjoying participating in physical activity, while raising money for the school library. It was very impressive to see the amount of laps that were completed by all the students from Foundation to Grade Six. Thank you to the Parent and Friend Committee for putting on a fantastic event. All of the students had an amazing time during the walkathon and wearing their crazy songs and spending time with their friends.
