Secondary Country Week

SIDE Country Week Write-Up

The Year 11 & 12 students joined the 7-10 classes on their Country Week Camp. While the lower and middle high schoolers played basketball in the mornings, the SIDE students completed their normal school work at SIDE Leederville. They had the opportunity to meet their teachers and consolidate their school work before the exams and the end of the year. In the afternoons, we joined the rest of the students to participate in the activities Mr Duncan had organised. Highlights included the impressive Optus Stadium Tour, where we were able to see the 2019 Brownlow Medalists locker (Nat Fyfe). Other highlights included eating out at lots of different Perth restaurants, such as Nando’s and Sebastian’s Italian and ten pin bowling. Thank you to Mr Duncan and the other high school staff who made it such an enjoyable camp!

Country Week Write-Up

On Sunday the 22nd of September MDHS students from years 7 to 12 left Mukinbudin for Country Week on four buses and headed off to Perth for the exciting and unforgettable event.

We arrived in Perth at 6:30pm and we were all ready for dinner at Sizzler’s. We were all starving and exhausted, but still managed to be a lively bunch of teenagers (while still being respectful of other customers.)

The next day we started a week full of basketball and badminton at the State Basketball Centre every morning and early afternoon. There were three different basketball teams and a badminton team. The teams were presented with their new guernseys and team names; they were the Tiger Snakes, Kookaburras and the Wombats. The badminton players were called the Goannas. The SIDE students did their own work at SIDE Perth.

The afternoons and evenings were filled with activities and dinners at awesome places. Some of the activities we did was the Police Academy, a tour of ECU, Ten Pin Bowling, a high ropes and flying fox course (which we had to forfeit a game to do…but it was worth it!), tour of Optus stadium, having dinner at Sebastian’s Italian restaurant in Victoria Park and lastly late night shopping at Garden City (where we had fun buying a $5 gift for someone we drew out of a hat).

On Friday we watched the Tiger Snakes play off for 3rd place in the A Grade Mixed Competition – they won! We left the basketball centre and arrived in Muka around 6:00pm. A big thanks to Mr Duncan for his organisation of Country Week and also to the other staff who came along – Mr Stevens, Mrs Nixon, Mr Sobejko, Miss Hogan and our bus drivers (Mr Nixon and Dave). We will never forget the time we had at Country Week 2019 – can’t wait to see the video!

Country Week Feedback

The School received some encouraging feedback about our Country Week students after their week away in Term 3.

From Optus Stadium Tours:

I'm writing to inform you of the amazing feedback provided by our tour guides about your group on tour.  Our tour guides Terri and Sue reported back to us about how well behaved the students were on tour. It was said that your students listened carefully, engaged well with the tour leaders, and respected the facilities they were venturing through. The tour guides were highly impressed with the behavior of your students and hope your school will re-tour Optus Stadium at a future date.
