Dickins Room
What a great week we had in our Wimbi and Marram classes! There was magic in the air this week, CHRISTMAS magic to be specific, with a visit from the elves to share an inflatable Santa with the children. J This has begun our learning about celebrations and our planning for the Mount Pleasant Road Carols night and our Christmas breakup concerts.
We have had some rich discussions with both of our classes this week, planning the songs that we will sing and discussing what the children know about Christmas as well as what a celebration means to them. Our Marram class were excited about Christmas food as well as the fact that they would be able to make snow men!! We haven’t quite been successful in convincing them that there won’t be snow in Australia for Christmas..
Our Wimbi class were excited also, their concept of Christmas was lots of presents and through our discussion around family and celebration they have suggested buying Unicorns, Mermaids with sparkly tails as well as diamond dresses - even for their dads.
In other areas, the week has been filled with so many focused moments. We watched some drama performances from the grade sixes, clowning around and making everyone laugh. We have been busy engaging in art and craft for Christmas as well as spending long periods of time working cooperatively in construction.
It was lovely seeing everyone at the Bazaar, thank you all for making our community so connected.

We hope that all those that were able to attend the Pleasant Bazaar had an amazing day. The weather was perfect, the stalls were great, rides awesome and food scrumptious. Our kinder room smelt beautiful this morning as the cake stall had been using our room as the drop off point. It is always another great opportunity to be involved with the school and wider community.
Another talking point of involvement with the school was an invitation from the grade 5/6 students to be in the audience of their comedy sketch. The skits were preformed through music and actions and our children thought there were some very funny moments which demonstrates our emerging humour. They were very impressive as they sat through the acts attentively and respectfully. Thank you Mrs. Andrews and the grade 5/6 classes for sharing this with our Kinder children.
We have been enjoying some sensory play through the ‘bird seed’ as the children use measuring cups and apparatus to explore concepts of volume and capacity as well as some sorting. Another sorting arrangement occurred in the block corner. Some of the children have made a ‘tank area’ by using the small and larger shaped blocks and placement as they create and use representation in mathematical ideas and concepts. Other mathematical concepts have emerged during some board games as well as exploring space and formation as some of the children made knights armour with shields, capes and crowns for princesses and skirts from the movie Moana. It has been especially delightful to observe the children take control of their own learning through some fabulous dialogue, co-operation and trust and confidence in their own and others ideas.
Our concert practice is in full swing and we are looking forward to sharing this on Wednesday 18th December for both Budja and Gawarn groups combined for a 12.30pm start.
Have an amazing week!
