What a busy week of swimming we have had! The students have been amazing at changing quickly and participating in all the activities. To end an already amazing week it was exciting to have the Year One Late Stay! It was such an enjoyable evening where we played games together, ate dinner together and decorated an amazing photo of all of us at the Late Stay.
In Maths we explored 2D and 3D shapes. We observed different shapes we could find in our environment as well as exploring the different features of the shapes such as how many sides and corners a 2D shape has and how many vertices, edges and faces a 3D shape has. We used our creativity to build shapes out of matchsticks and playdough and other hands on materials.
Our Writing focus last week was on information reports. We looked at what information needs to be included and the students engaged in research using ipads to look up their own animal of choice to make an information report on. Some interesting facts we discovered were: We share 98.5% of our DNA with Chimpanzees and Narwhals have an enlarged tooth with sensory capabilities.
Our Literacy sessions followed the same focus based on factual reports. During our sessions we used iPads to research more information for our reports, we had a spelling focus looking at the meaning and definitions of our spelling words and recalling important information from the texts we read.
During Guided Inquiry, the students enjoyed building their creations such as cleaning robots to help clean their tubs and items to help us get back into the green zone. It was great to see so much creativity in the development of these inventions.
We look forward to another busy week with swimming, please don’t forget to come to school in your swimwear and to bring your towel, goggles and underwear every day.
Have an amazing week!
