Orchard to Plate

We have started the year with a freshly renovated kitchen, new dishwasher and a supply of well needed kitchen equipment.

I would firstly like to thank all the families, community members, students and staff who supported our amazing cookbook.   We have almost sold out of the book and are utilizing the funds raised thus far to ensure the best start to the cooking program for 2020.

This year I have been appointed in an Educational support role as Orchard to Plate coordinator.  I am super excited to take on this role, as it combines a number of my passions; education, sustainability, cooking and kids! It also allows me to work in an environment with like-minded teacher, parents and community members.

The program will be running across two days this year.  In term one we will be cooking on Wednesday and Thursdays. The sessions will run from 9am until 10:40am, during which time we will harvest produce from the orchard,  take the produce back into the kitchen and create healthy vegetarian meals.

The program encompasses many aspects of the school curriculum, providing the students with opportunities to engage in mathematic concepts such as measurement and sequencing, also literacy and numeracy skills, reading and following recipes, social interactions, cultural awareness and community engagement.

I have put together a roster for parents, grandparents and any other family members who wish to volunteer within our program. The roster is displayed in the parent notice board in the school breezeway and also below.  Please remember all volunteers need to have a current WWC Check and have attended a Classroom Helper Session.

If you have any ideas or would like to make contact with me, please leave your details with the office staff.

Thanks

Dianne Macdonald
