Parent Opinion Survey

Recently a number of families received information regarding our Parent Opinion Survey. This is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education to a randomly selected sample of families. Both Campuses (Rollins and Batesford) will receive separate log in details. We encourage those families who were selected to complete this electronic survey as soon as possible. The closing date for access to this survey is August 10th. If you have any problems accessing the survey please contact Sandy in the office and she will assist you. Many thanks in anticipation of your support in completing this survey.

Student Led Conferences

A reminder to parents that our Student Led Conferences will be held Wednesday 14th August. Please make sure you have booked an appointment on Compass. If you have more than one child it is a good idea to leave a 15 minute gap in between appointments. Please note that students are only required to be at school during their interview time.

Concert

The 2019 Rollins School Concert is happening on Thursday 5th September! This year’s big event will be held at Geelong Baptist College. Doors will open at 6.30pm, with a prompt start at 7pm. The theme is Animals and the title of the event is, of course, Roaring Rollins! We will have a major raffle with all profits going towards landscaping and seating around our new oval. Tickets will be available early next week- I will place an announcement on Compass when we are ready to go.

Oval

The long saga with the oval continues! I think we are close to the end of the paperwork trail- May I say it has been a very long and tiring road!!!

Due to the heavy rains we have had in the past months the cracks in the oval have closed over and after an OH&S inspection we have opened sections of the oval for the students to have a kick of the footy. We have organised a timetable that will share the opened sections of the oval-(Prep, Grade 1&2 on the far side daily and Grade 3&4 and 5/6 will rotate between the Ga Ga pit and the remaining section of the oval).

Buildings

We had an initial meeting with the Project Manager last week to discuss the general building timelines for the Rollins Upgrade. We then visited a number of Geelong and Melbourne schools to view their new building projects and get some valuable design ideas. Next Monday we will meet with the architects to discuss the possible designs and plans for this project. Things are really moving with this project.

Book Week

Book Week begins MONDAY AUGUST 19th to FRIDAY AUGUST 23rd

The theme this year is “Reading is my Superpower".

On Wednesday August 21st we will have our Parade and

Book Week Activity Day.

Please refer to the Book Week note coming home on Monday 5th August for details.

Principal's Pondering

A Growth Mindset message...

Research has explained a growth mindset as ‘a willingness to confront challenges, viewing failure as a springboard for growth, and a passion for learning. Not surprisingly, this type of mindset is strongly linked to greater happiness and achievement in life.’ Children who are happy, comfortable, safe and confident have a greater outcome with learning and socialising.

Here’s a child friendly video as made by one of our communication apps, Class Dojo, that explains it brilliantly. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zrtHt3bBmQ
