Co-curricular Arts News

Dr Andrew Butt, Program Leader Co-curricular Arts

Term 2 continues to be an eventful term for Marist Co-curricular Arts. In the last fortnight we have hosted the 2022 Winds and Percussion Concert, which featured exceptional performances from all of the College’s Wind Bands and Percussion Ensembles and tonight we look forward to Big Band 1 performing at the Big Band Youth Jazz Festival, hosted by Brisbane Jazz Club at the Brisbane Multicultural Arts Centre (BEMAC). The choirs have also been busy performing at the Mother's Days Mass and breakfasts. To conclude the fortnight we have numerous music and dance performances over the weekend as part of the Tower Art Show and Walkathon/Battle of the Bands.

Choir News

Congratulations to Chamber Choir and Performance Choir for their performances at the Queensland Youth Music Awards at St Peters Lutheran College last Friday evening. Performance Choir was awarded a Bronze level. Chamber Choir achieved a Gold level and won 3rd Place overall out of 12 competitors. An outstanding effort!

There are many great choral opportunities available for singers to extend their skill over the winter school holidays. Details of the male singing festival “Pemulway” and “QueenslandinSpires 2023,” a choral festival organised by the Royal School of Church Music, will be sent to choir singers and parents in the coming week. Both festivals offer incredible experiences for the singers and culminate in large-scale concerts.
