Deputy Head of College News

Mr Charles Brauer

Thank You

The culture of appreciation at Marist is impressive. We go out of our way to say ‘thank you’ to one another. We be sure not to miss anyone. We ensure our ‘thank you’ is sincere. When we thank another we affirm our relationship with them and affirm how we value them. Being valued is central to Marist education and central to our daily practice as a Marist Family.

Recently, I thanked a staff member for their presence at staff meeting. In a light-hearted way we exchanged some commentary about being thanked for being present at an assigned duty and how the ‘thank you’ can become all a little too much, put on too thick if you will. This bothered me a little. Was I being inauthentic and insincere? Upon reflection it became clear I wasn’t thanking this person for being ‘present for duty’, rather, I was thanking them for how they were being present – they were being collegial, supportive and encouraging. Worth thanking in my view! How we do things with each other is often far more impactful than what we do.

This weekend sees two significant College events which we are most definitely thankful for, The Tower Art Show and Walkathon. Our ‘thank you’ for these occasions is extended to the array of community members who have not only given of their time, but have given of their positivity, care and joy with ensuring a wonderful occasion will be experienced by all. These occasions have become integral features of the Marist calendar because of the way they strengthen our community, which we deeply value and for which we are most grateful.

Turns out a simple thank you can go a long way. Let’s be sure to foster our culture of gratitude of each other by extending an authentic ‘thank you’ when we see fit.

Ski Trip Update

Thank you to those who have recently raised enquiring and interest regarding the 2023 Ski Trip. The College has considered all related matters and has made the decision to cancel this year’s ski trip. The prohibitive factors include difficulties with securing a final location and appropriate accommodation for students and staff. Refunds will be provided to all those who have made contributions, including, historical deposits affected by COVID cancellations.

The College understands how some will be disappointed with this decision and is very much committed to re-instating the ski trip in 2024.

Have Your Family Circumstances Changed?

To ensure you are receiving communications from the College, please log into Parent Lounge to check and update your Address Details.  These details can be found under the Parent Address menu.

As part of this process, we ask that you please check, update or add an Alternate Emergency Contact for your family.  This person will be contacted should you be unavailable in case of an emergency.

Where there has been a family separation and parents now reside at different addresses, please be aware we can effectively manage separate contact details on our system without compromising communication regarding your son. In the case of separated families, it would be ideal to have an Emergency Contact listed for each parent.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you need help navigating any changes (including new family court orders or conditional communication) through the Parent Portal. Our Data Management Office, Linda Pettit is available to support you in this area. Email: pettitl@marash.qld.edu.au or Phone:  07 3858 4508.
