Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives

Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives - The Voice to Parliament

Glen Education is committed to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in our kindergarten programs.  The updated EYLF v2.0 and the Child Safe Standards both reflect the importance of establishing a culturally safe environment in which children are able to see themselves represented and be able to express and enjoy their culture.  We recognise that this takes time, dedication and meaningful engagement.

"Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives is a shared responsibility of approved providers, educators, and other professionals working in early childhood educational settings, regardless of whether Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families are enrolled in that setting" (EYLF V2.0, pg. 16)

In reflection of this we encourage our kindergarten communities to engage in learning about and discussing the referendum on the Voice to Parliament with our children, families and wider community.  Reconciliation Australia states that:

"A Voice to Parliament will give Indigenous communities a route to help inform policy and legal decisions that impact their lives. Giving people a say will lead to more effective results. Embedding a Voice in the Constitution would recognise the special place of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia’s history, but importantly would also mean that it can’t be shut down by successive Governments."
